3. Find out what its like to slide into a DM without actually touching your phone.
PLAYING THE GAME
There are actually 3 Games
GAME 1: Confession
A card is flipped over by the dealer to the first player. The player can call 'clean', meaning they identify with the white side of the card, or they can confess 'ecreature' - in which case they're out. The other players will be watching for false 'cleans' and so you might be voted out if you fib! Each player has a turn (including the dealer) and whoever survives the most rounds wins!
GAME 2: Three Strikes
Each player is dealt 3 cards. The first player calls out a number representing the number of 'cleans' (white side of card) they can claim from their hand and everyone else's hands! The next player can raise by choosing a higher number, they can fold in that round (cards still face down) or they can end the round by calling the previous player out.
If someone is called out, all cards are laid bare and the person called out is granted a moment to give evidence.If the jury (other players) are satisfied then the person who called them out gets a strike. If no-one is called out the person with the highest number gets to assign a strike. Reshuffle and deal for the next round.
Naturally, 3 strikes and you're out. Survivor wins!
GAME 3: Free or Fold
Two players at a time. Unlock your phone and give it to your opponent. Select and show a card face up from the deck and call 'clean' or 'ecreature' based on which side you identify with (red is ecreature). Try to go through as many cards as possible while your opponent teases you by scrambling through your phone! 1 point for every 'clean' answer and 0 for an 'ecreature'. Then its the other person's turn...

I'm Tobi, and this story starts with my modern techxperience - lets see if you relate...
So I'm sitting down at a restaurant and happen to notice five friends typing and scrolling their phones without so much as a look up to each other. Naturally, I sigh: what a shame smartphones have taken over the experience of sharing a meal. As fate would have it, like a minute later, my phone buzzes..
First thought: check it but don't text back, be present with the company you have!
Second thought: don't check it, just switch it to silent and continue as you were.
Third thought: If you leave the phone in your bag it will just ring again, plus you're now wasting time thinking about the text. You may as well check it..
Of course by that point I'd woken up to my own little problem - the mental jitter I'd had over a phone beep. But then came the strangest part - a manic laugh that has basically brought me to this point. In hindsight, it was probably a salty mix of an 'everyone is nuts' and 'devices will rule us all' sequence of thoughts. And as it turns out, lots of others I know have had that same rueful chuckle. Maybe yours happened as you resignedly scrolled the same news feed after work as before work, to see the same things as yesterday. Maybe it happened as you watched someone retake beach selfies over and over, or - here's a popular one - maybe its the morning newsfeed you consume just to really 'set up' your day. Whatever the case may be (sad, funny or unnerving), the wry humour associated with the modern techxperience is undeniable, so its only too perfect that a game of cards captures it for friends everywhere.
As we're raising the $ on Kickstarter, we'll be listening and gathering more ideas for phrases that would make great cards for our game. Heck - we may even beef up the games themselves if you've got good suggestions! Remember, the way this works is that you share ideas (and ideas on the ideas) and we do our best to make it happen in the most fun & most practical way possible.
After reaching our goal and finalising the cards in the weeks following, we'll be manufacturing and delivering full-time till its done (PS: this means you'll get to see updates and packages [hopefully with your name on it!!]). At that point we'll make the card game available for purchase via our website as well - which that means everyone can let go of their phone!

Risks and challenges
The main challenge we face is ensuring the set of cards ultimately included in each deck balances relevance with ease of use (so a newbie insta mum can also join the fun). Our approach for that is to test some cards through our iphone app as well as through the usual social platforms. We also invite backers (you) to suggest new phrases that would make great ɘcreature cards based on your phone-a-holic experiences.
The other challenge is ensuring swift and reliable delivery of each reward. This one is just a matter of planning and organisation, and so we've set ourselves clear deadlines for finalising distribution i.e. as the cards are being manufactured.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
