History knows him as the gatekeeper of Pontius Pilate and the man who was cursed to immortality by God. He is Cartaphilus, the godless, depraved and ruthless Roman centurion responsible for beating Christ before the Crucifixion.
After the Crucifixion he opts to turn his eternal life around and seek salvation for his pitiful soul. His penance is given to him by the mother of the man he savagely beat, the Virgin Mary. She tasks him with protecting mankind from the agents of evil and with venerating five holy relics used during the Crucifixion. All with the caveat that his perpetual curse will be lifted if he earns his redemption before the return of her Son. Off Cartaphilus goes to wander the earth in torturous perpetuity while spreading the relics, protecting man and seeking absolution for his terrible crimes.
Now, 2,000 years later, the forces of darkness have come for the relics. The fallen angel Lucifer is tired of waiting for his earthly reign to begin. Together, with the help of his two most wicked disciples: Azrael, the angel of death, and he who follows with him, Naraka, they formulate a sinister plan to steal the relics. Lucifer will use their otherworldly power to build his unholy offspring, the antichrist, relic by powerful relic and raise him from the depths of Hell. He will be unleashed upon an unsuspecting world to usher in the Second Coming.
However, Cartaphilus has not yet atoned for his sins. His soul is not worthy to be judged. He must stop Lucifer, his minions and the pending birth of the antichrist before their devious plan comes to fruition. The immortal man, with nothing but time, must now race the clock to stop Lucifer’s diabolical scheme.
Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to everyone!
I am seeking to raise funds to publish my second book, THE GATEKEEPER. It is a completed 92,000 word supernatural thriller. It is a cross between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The DaVinci Code.
I would like to publish it myself via Amazon's CreateSpace publishing company.
All of the raised funds will be used towards publishing The Gatekeeper manuscript using CreateSpace's Total Design Freedom Marketing Pro package. After consulting with a CreateSpace design professional, the breakdown for the funds is as follows:
$1,602 for Comprehensive Copyediting
$1,234 for Basic Copyediting.
$749 for Signature Book Cover
$379 for a Custom Interior
$49 for an LCCN Assignment
$199 for Promotional Text Package
$379 for Kirkus Review
$69 for Kindle Ready Package
That brings the total to $4,660 to publish my manuscript plus an additional $466 for the 5% fee imposed by Amazon (for credit card processing) and 5% for Kickstarter (for a successful campaign). Any and ALL funds raised above what is needed will be used for advertising and marketing. Ultimately, I would like to place an ad in USA Today, on Facebook and in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (my hometown newspaper).
Risks and challenges
The single biggest risk I am taking with publishing the book version of THE GATEKEEPER is that the screenplay version has garnered some interest from Hollywood and one studio in particular. I was close to a deal with the studio, which shall remain nameless, and then, unfortunately, the recession hit and they went bankrupt. So, I found myself starting at square one once again. I did not feel like waiting around while trying to land another studio and I began writing the book version of the screenplay. Eight hours a day for ten months and I am finally finished with what I believe is my greatest work yet. I am determined to get this story out one way or another. Hopefully it will not hurt my chances with any studios. I realize I am taking a huge risk, but the story needs to be told and I believe it will find an audience.
I have already published one book RELICS OF GOD: A SUPERNATURAL GUIDE TO RELIGIOUS ARTIFACTS, SACRED LOCATIONS & HOLY SOULS using CreateSpace. So, I am intimately familiar with the risks and challenges associated with publishing through them. I believe I am adequately educated from that first experience with the various pitfalls and mishaps that can occur during the publishing process and am going into it knowing exactly what is expected of me, what is needed on my part and how to overcome any known, and possibly unknown, problems that can arise. I hit a few snags during the publishing process of my first book and trudged through them. It was truly a learning experience and looking back, I cannot believe I was able to do it. It was one of my proudest achievements so far.
