Welcome to the Void Issue 1 is the beginning of an ongoing comic book series that revolves around unassuming dishwasher Manny Johannson. Our protagonist quickly finds himself propelled into a dimension known only as The Void, where anything your mind can imagine is possible. He isn't the only one who knows about it, though. Can he keep others from abusing this power? Can he keep himself from doing the same?
I've always been very interested in the idea of magic and in the unexplainable 'miracles' that we witness in our lives. The truly wonderful part about being a writer is that we can define that which normally is beyond our comprehension. I've used the Void as my way to comprehend the strangeness around us.
Rather than focusing on super-heroics, we're focusing on the people behind the mystery. We're shining a light on the struggled we all deal with every day, while also tipping our hat to the incredible synchronicities that occur around us, the ones that shape us even as we blow them off as coincidence. Magic will be a focus in our tale, while never losing sight of the fact that everyone affected by it are real people with their struggles and issues.
We want to offer you as much value as possible for your contribution, so we're packing this Kickstarter with all sorts of goodies!
The first, and most obvious reward is the book, in both it's digital and physical forms. Everyone has a preference, so we offered them in separate packages so people could get exactly what they wanted.
Included in the physical rewards is a Welcome to the Void sticker, so you can represent anywhere you go.
In addition to writing his own projects, Chuck Pineau has taken to editing as a side project, which has quickly turned into a second love alongside his own creative work. He's proven very early on that he has a knack for adding depth and strength to other people's stories: he already has his name attached to about a dozen projects, and that's only in his first year as an editor! Our first digital tier offers a sample of those projects to you. The first is Rob Andersin's And They Call us Monsters. The second is also by Rob, a children's book entitled Jaxx the Andersin. The third book is Chris Thomasma's Clarity Girl #1. The fourth and final book isn't one Chuck worked on, though he has worked on sequels to it. Your final book in this tier is Nicholas Paul's Resurrection Men 1.
The next digital tier focuses on Chuck's first literary love: fantasy. It was his focus for over 20 years, and his love of magic is a major influence on his work in WttV. In honor of that heritage, we are presenting you with four novels by up-and-coming fantasy novelists. The novels we are presenting are The Sullen Feather by James Downe, The Abolition of Caden Hail by Kaitlyn Corvus, Gods of the Mountain by Christopher Keene, and The Witch Ring by Aesc Adams.
The next is a digital tier filled with a multitude of fantastic independently published comics. Even when showing off our own hard work we feel it's important to enjoy the work of others as well. If your tier includes this bundle you will get the chance to enjoy all of the great titles shown below.
Another great find is our t-shirts which come in black and white, male and female.
Nerd Nation Presents #2 is an anthology brought to you by the podcast of the same name. They take independent creators and give them a spotlight. Chuck got the opportunity to be included in their second outing and now you have your chance to get yourself a copy.
Chuck has been working at being a writer in some form or another for most of his life. At a young age he was writing prose novels that just never finished. Upon meeting the love of his life they shared this love of fantasy prose and created their own Play by Post RPG which was enjoyed by writers all across the globe for over ten years! Now he has set his sights on the comic world. It has been a love of his from a very young age as well. In the past year he has edited almost a dozen comics, has released an anthology piece, and is now releasing Welcome to the Void #1 which will soon be followed by a piece he co-created with Shaun Barbour titled Belial.
Shaun Barbour is an independent comic inker that has been a member of the successful comic “Into The Darkness” as well as doing interior work and inking for “Welcome to the Void”, and Co-creating/Inking the upcoming comic titled “Belial”. He has also been credited as the inker for Rumble Kings’ cover art. His talents do not stop there ,though, as he has also published many comic reviews and interviews for OutrightGeekery.com; proving that he takes his role in comics personally and is in it for the long game. Residing in Northern California, he is also a father of 4 while somehow remaining a kid at heart himself. Always up for a challenge he strives to be a worthy contributor to Indie comics and their creators in whatever capacity that may present itself.
Kitty Pierce is a terrific pain in the ass (in her own words) with an odd sense of humor. She's a hopeless bohemian, OCD hippie, and happily odd. Colorist, writer and editor, she has worked on indie books including Gene Hoyle's Labyrinth of Bones and JR Blanton's Light Earth series.
Michael is a jack-of-all-trades in the comic’s field. He has illustrated, written, colored, lettered, edited, and produced comics for many publishers. Previous Work: The Adventures of El Diablo Azul, Labyrinth of Bones, Dulce, & World’s Edge…just to name a few.
While this is Ben's first official credit as an editor, he and Chuck have worked together very closely for fifteen years. As a result, they both have a strong understanding of each other and what they both want to portray in their work, which made him an easy addition to the team. Along with editing in his spare time, Ben is currently engaged in publishing his first novel, as well as developing his own comic series.
At $2200 we will be adding on a postcard currently in development. Digital backers get a digital version, physical backers receive a physical version. We have stretch goals to announce at $2500 and $3000.
We came into this understanding that there were certain hoops we would need to jump through in order to prove that this book will come out and everyone will get exactly, or more, than they had hoped for. Because of this we funded as much of the book as possible ourselves. The entire staff has been paid ahead of time and we aren't attempting to raise those funds back. That is our investment in ourselves and in this book. What these funds are for is specifically for printing the book(the first run being 500 copies) and paying for other rewards that come along with crowdfunding. That is our way of telling you that when this campaign funds you WILL receive all of your rewards because that has been our focus since the very beginning.
Risks and challenges
We have done everything in our power to create a project we would want to back on Kickstarter. The project is in it's final stages before awaiting the printer. All we need is the funding to do so and we can get this book in your hands. Barring acts of god(s), there is no reason why this can't be another fantastic book to add to your collection.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
