This is the Kickstarter exclusive version of our game, it will contain extra characters you wont be able to get otherwise. It's our way of saying thank you for pledging.
We need to know you're interested! We can't make this game if you're not interested, so tell us that you want to see this game get made! Even if it means just liking us on Facebook, following us on Twitter, posting comments, pledging – whatever the case is, tell us what you think. Who's your favorite character? What part of the game caught your eye?
"IMBA is an incredibly unique board game with fantastic mechanics that really cannot be compared to others in its field." -Frank Inglese, Capsule Computers
"Wow. Everything that is terrible, insulting and immature about the video game industry distilled into a single board game. Where do I sign up?" -redditor
"I'd play it again." -Our friend Bryan
"You really think this should be in a board game?" -Mom
Broken, busted, over-powered and imba; just some of the common phrases you hear when playing some of your favorite competitive video games. Are you tired of playing video games that release patch after patch but still never seem to get the character balance correct?
IMBA to the rescue!
IMBA is the board game where you take the role of lead game designer of a popular competitive video game. Your job is to make sure your video game has been thoroughly tested and that all the characters in your game are balanced.
IMBA is a card game for 2 to 4 players. Each player will be assigned a different character to balance and its up to you to stand out as the best designer by making sure the characters you're in charge of are not too strong, not too weak and free of exploits.

Mod Cards and how to change stats and abilities:
More about mod cards:
- During your turn they can be used on any character in the game including the opponents characters.
- You can only change a specific characters stat once per turn. Meaning if you modded their Power once you can now only mod their other stats the remainder of your turn.
How Scoring Works:
More about Scoring:
- On average kills are worth about 3-8 points, but through strategy and planning you can land kills that are worth much more.
- I have never seen anyone win the game off one kill but technically its possible. Will you be the first? It would require the ultimate balanced team fight with balance tokens on multiple characters and a perfect kill.
Controlling Multiple Characters:
Patch Cards, Glitch Cards, and Action Tokens:
IMBA is a team-based, PvP (Player vs Player) game that satirizes modern games with particular aim at MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) games like DotA, League of Legends, etc. Each character looks and feels unique. You are empowered to change their stats as you see fit; if a character is too strong or too weak, adjust their stats accordingly.
This game is about balance. It's not good to have over-powered or under-powered characters. Players score the most points when the characters are the most balanced. There are differing opinions on what "balanced" means. That's where the PvP comes in.
IMBA is team-based PvP. That means you (and a teammate if you're playing with 4 players) are against another team at the table. To win, your team must reach the point-goal first. Points are scored when one or more characters die in a turn. Remember, this game is about balance, so don't kill too quickly - and don't stay alive too long!
Every so often a patch is released that affects all characters in play. There are many patches and they have a variety of effects. After the patch is resolved, each player draws a glitch card. Glitches are effects that interrupt play and can change the course of the game. Between patches, glitches, and balancing, anything can happen on any turn. But that doesn't mean you can't strategize. There is a wide variety of viable strategies for IMBA. The best strategies tend to be the most adaptable.
Replayability: We have 50+ characters, 25+ patches, and 25+ glitches. In a normal game 2 player game you'll see about 6-8 characters, 4 patches and 4 glitches. That means that each time you play is going to be VERY different. Even if the same characters come out at the same time, with all the modding going on there's no way that those characters will play the same as the last time! There's so many possibilities!
Here are some of the characters of IMBA. Also, every few days we will release another character and tell you some of their special abilities. There are over 50 characters in IMBA so to see them all you'll have to buy the game.
Bruce: For the record Bruce is not a space marine. He is clearly an "Extra Dimensional Space Marine." Don't worry Games Workshop, it's totally different. As for his abilities, Bruce can consume Action Tokens to cause a character to time warp (re-roll an attack). His 3rd ability can send an opponent into a parallel universe where they have the same amount of health but a different persona completely. Any other "Sliders" fans out there?
Cherry: To address any concerns, Officer Cherry is the obligatory overly sexualized character that must be in every video game (so please no more hate mail about it). To avoid getting our project shut down I am not even going to talk about her abilities. Have some tissues close by.
Morbidead: This disgusting clump of bleeding meat is one of my favorites. Morbidead enjoys pain and his special makes him more and more powerful as he is damaged. The only other thing I can say is, imagine how he must smell.
Panzer Fiend: A German Tank possessed by a demon. Whats not to love? Panzer Fiend can rain down hellfire on all opponents. He is ultra powerful. Just imagine a real life battle between him and Artillerex. Who would win?
Penta Rangers: "Omega, Jesus escaped. Recruit a team of satanic teenagers with attitude!" That's right they are back in a brand new series. This time the Rangers take on their biggest enemy, God! The Penta Rangers are the strongest when they have a full team. As they lose teammates they grow weaker in power. If they become too weak you can always sacrifice one Satan to get a guaranteed powerful attack.
Tombstone: The slowest gunman in the west! Tombstone is out for brains. His ability "Slow Draw" will put the hurt on any yellow bellies, especially when it stacks with his third ability the "The Good, the Bad & the Undead" which will stun an opponent (they can't use their abilities on their next turn). In true zombie fashion if you shoot Tombstone down he has a 50 percent chance of getting back up by consuming 2 action tokens.
A Billion Baby Spiders: Since baby spiders are fragile, this character has no Power or Defense and it never will. That's right, this is one of the only characters who's Power and Defense cannot be modded. Though the worst (or best) part of this character is that it can double or halve its health just by consuming Action Tokens. The spider's swarm is very unpredictable. This is another Kickstarter Exclusive character that Madhouse Ink has kindly allowed us to use from their game Bedlam, a thoroughly uncooperative card game, which is on Kickstarter right now! This is a character that will never exist in our game world if we don't get funded so tell your friends all you want for Christmas is A Billion Baby Spiders!!
The Movement: This character is a bunch of angry protesters who grow more and more angry as the game progresses. Their damage output increase +1 for any Balance Tokens out in the game at the time of their attack. Their special helps them gain support (health) by consuming Action Tokens. Lastly their their 3rd ability calls out "the fuzz" which does damage to all characters in the game including themselves. Damage that also ignores defense. If you wanted to play character who fights for what's right, then why not play a whole mob of them?
Chuck Just Jr.: CJ, aka Chuck Just Jr. is a Kickstarter exclusive character! He's an introverted little genius who could do anything if it didn't involve interacting with other people. He just graduated kindergarten but he's already fought a crocodile, ridden a bear, crashed a car and helped catch a couple of killers. Read more about him in his comic: http://www.ryanestrada.com/pedxing
CJ is a character that was lent to us by Ryan Estrada, who is also doing a Kickstarter called Broken Telephone. It's a brilliant concept and it's a pay-what-you-want deal! What more could you ask for?
Stuffed: Yep, we here at Poison Tip Games try to be original. That being said we are doing a holiday-themed Kickstarter exclusive character that's still incubating. This character, Stuffed, was just drawn the other day but when she is in full beautiful color you will see that she is a partially cooked turkey who came back to life with ghostly limbs and is now out for revenge. She wont stop until every pilgrim is on the chopping block. Some of her abilities include "Thank-shiving" and "Tryptophan Nap". We're still working on her, but we'd love to hear your suggestions on what her abilities should be! Mention them in the comments section of our Kickstarter page and we'll be sure to listen!
Toby: He starts off as a harmless squirrel - a harmless rabies infected squirrel. Obviously this rabies is other-worldly because Toby grows more crazy and powerful with each turn. Every time Toby attacks his permanent damage goes up by one.(use counters to keep track). On top of that his first ability,"Go Nuts" mods his Power +1. When he isn't infecting opponents with "Berserker Bite" he's slowly morphing into some kind of super squirrel. Rumor has it he can do an attack that's +30 damage. That's more damage than any character's max health. But don't worry, he's just a harmless squirrel.
Artillerex: Another powerhouse character. His T-Rockets have the strongest potential which is 12 damage to 2 opponents. But it also has the potential to be the weakest. A measly 3 damage to 2 opponents. If you have Action Tokens and you want to go for the safer bet you can use Dino Force Assemble which is a guaranteed 10 damage. What really makes Artillerex special is his well, his special "Dino Upgrades" he can consume an action token to add +3 to any Power or Defense mod card in the game(Max of +6). Example: If you have a strength +2 mod card and you want to buff Artillerex's Strength more than +2, you just simply consume an action token and now that mod card is worth +5 power.
I_D-stroy: Definitely one of our stranger characters, he hacked in to the game and made a character of himself. All of I_D-stroy's abilities and stats are determined randomly. So Roll 4 D6 to determine his health and 2 D4 to determine both his Power and his Defense. Lastly you draw 3 random abilities and place them on any ability slot. His special "Hackers Delight" allows him to consume action tokens and use them as ability mod cards in case you're not happy with your current abilities.
Amanda Tanner: Amanda is one of the few characters that can't change their ability roll. When played right she is a deadly assassin, so we had to limit her ability kit. She can also consume the flesh of her local pool boys to gain health. Use her when you have a character close to death and you want to guarantee the kill. There are other ways to exploit her but we'll leave you to figure that out on your own.
Glossy Paul: It may be hard out here for a pimp, but not Glossy Paul Tha III. Born with a legendary and super-natural back hand, Glossy's hoes never get out of line. He has 3 different status effects to shake up any homies swagger. His Epic Pimp Slap isn't one to be trifled with, especially if you consume action tokens to add a wind up.
Vile Muskeg:One of our most toxic characters in the game. It can poison units with every single one of it's abilities. Not to mention it can poison a character anytime outside of battle, as well. Lastly, it's mere presence enables your whole team to be immune to poison. It should be noted that poison can't kill you but instead drains your Health(HP) over time. Poison effects will go away when your HP reaches 1. Lastly you will notice there is a Roll Again icon on one of Vile Muskegs abilities. If you roll Sewage Bender you will poison the character and roll again. You do not add your Power to a Roll Again ability.
Stella:This is one of our extremely powerful characters. She boasts a devastating 8 Power and 9 Defense. Two of her abilities also cause an additional 10 or more damage to the enemy characters. On top of that she causes status effects "burning" and "frog" depending on the ability. She has a strange 3rd ability called "Restoring Order" which swaps all the stats of 2 characters in play. Her special "Universal Balance" can activate this ability outside of combat using the in game "action tokens". Also check out that HP(hit points or health) 30 is the max HP any one character can have.
This is one of the more basic, easy to balance characters. He has two mid-range abilities and one powerful ability which hits all opponents. His special, which is unique to him, is his ability to penetrate the defense of any target. This special costs an Action Token but can be used for any one of his attacks.
The best part about IMBA is the player interaction that's created by giving every player the ability to change character stats. It really adds something special that no other game has really presented - the chance to balance the game as you see fit.
We chose the team-based model because it felt more rewarding to team up to get these big kills worth a bunch of points. It also makes it easier to execute a plan if someone else is helping. When playing with 2 players, it can get particularly intense and having multiple characters in play at once gives the players lots of interesting choices.
We took great care to make sure each character looks, feels, and plays differently. The art is the first impression of a game and our art is really outstanding. We were inspired by worlds that allow any genre to show up - which is to say, a character can be inspired from anywhere, regardless of its genre or thematic relevance. There are some characters that are more typical than others: Vincent is a archer, Gokai is an anime character with a charge attack, Sarge is a militant soldier, etc. But we also have some very original characters: Fred is just an oily rag, F.K.Face99 is an internet troll, Roboctopus-san is a robot samurai octopus, etc.
So why Kickstarter? We want to get this game manufactured, and we want the highest quality materials we can afford. We want to be able to distribute our game to anyone that is interested. We want to release special cards for backers. We want to add character packs. We want to implement different game modes. We want to make "skins" for some of our characters. But we can't do any of that without your support.
Thanks for taking the time to check out our project! If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or feedback PLEASE post it! We'd love to hear from you!
Risks and challenges
This is our first board game that we have decided was good enough to release. There have been several challenges on the way but we are over the humps.
-The game is so close to completion, we just need some more cool art and then we need to print out copies to send to you. We have several manufacturers lined up of varying qualities.
-So if we barely make our goal we will have to go with the cheaper companies. If we surpass our goal by a significant amount we can order from the higher end companies.
-Some of the companies we are looking at are in China. It is always possible our game could have shipment delays due to getting held up at Customs.
-We will be working day and night to try to get this game out to you as soon as possible.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
