The original stoner’s coloring book was lost by Greek explorers in the 13th century. The explorers were toasting their long day by smoking the peace pipe and doing some light coloring when a sandstorm swept through camp. They disappeared – along with the coloring book. Scholars heard rumors of such a book, but could not make heads or tails of the thing. But recently, a strange Phoenician tablet was discovered and translated into modern languages and the stoner’s coloring book was recovered. In a strange twist of fate, this long-lost treasure is now being offered on Kickstarter.
Seriously, I’ve poured my heart, soul, and lungs into this effort for the past couple months, and it’s finally ready for public eyes. I’ve been making art since I was a wee pup, and I’ve spent the last year focusing on black and white line drawings. Composed of my original artwork and submissions from other artists, the Stoner's Coloring Book is psychedelic, graffiti-inspired, and oven-toasted like a delicious banana bread.

Our fundraising goal is $6420. Now you may be wondering, why does a coloring book cost so damn much? Look, I don’t want to make a cheap book that you’re not going to cherish. I want this thing to be fucking gorgeous. The top-shelf California flower of coloring books.
The majority of these funds will go towards printing fees. The rest will be used to support the artists! This is an important aspect of this Kickstarter, as I believe artists deserve to be paid for their work and should be recognized for the value they bring to our communities.
If we raise:
- $6,420 – The Stoner’s Coloring Book comes to life! for your coloring pleasure.
- $12,420 – Foil-blocked cover (shiny colors!), perforated and bleed-proof pages, and a rip-out page of rolling papers.
- $10,000,000 -- Trip to the moon.
- $20,000,000 -- Populate a small island with oompa-loompas.
Rewards are fun, and, let’s be honest, why you’re all here. The rewards include sweet coloring kits that have everything you need to spend mind-numbing periods of your day coloring (and snacking) and even original pieces from the coloring book’s creation.
Every person or animal who donates $20 or more to this kickstarter gets their name (or codename) printed in the book to be enshrined forever as a benefactor to the stoned colorer community. Any reprints of the book will also include your name. Please note that if you don’t want your name printed, that’s fine too, totally up to you.
Thanks for reading!
Now here are some pretty pictures.
Risks and challenges
I've never published a book before, so the challenges lie in navigating the world of printers, ISBN numbers, and paper stocks. The main thing is that the majority of the illustrations are already done. The artwork is the easy part for me, it's the rest that might cause setbacks. But I've already been in communication with local print shops and I have family in the publishing business, so I'm being advised on the right routes to take as I work to get this coloring book printed.
I will try my best to get this book posted and mailed by September 2015, but there’s always a chance I’ll be a little late on my deadline. In which case you’ll get the coloring book, just a little later than expected. That’s not overly upsetting is it? Just make yourself a damn quesadilla and it’ll be there in no time.
