Greetings fellow fantasy/science-fiction readers, writers, gamers, and fans!
This Kickstarter will enable the last step in publishing the 3rd novel in my debut trilogy, Thread Skein. Your support will help publish the book into the distribution network required to get it into libraries, bookstores, and the hands of all the people, like you and me, who really enjoy the smell of books, and you just don't that get from your faithful eReader. (I hope someone is working on this.)
Thread Skein represents the culmination of over twenty years of world building and thousands of hours of work crafting the complete saga for your enjoyment. The funds raised throughout this campaign will go directly to pay for the editors, proofreaders, artists, and other publication professionals on the team I've assembled to produce top quality books, indistinguishable from any of the big New York publication houses.
When finished, Thread Skein will be available as an eBook for most eReaders, as a pocket paperback, and as a top notch hardback 1st edition print complete with dust jacket (which we all know makes an excellent bookmark). The primary publication will be through Ingram, one of the worlds largest book publishers and distributors, serving a large percentage of the entire world.
Thread Skein is the third book of a blended epic high fantasy and a hard science fiction saga. Set 20,000 years into our future, the story follows Ticca, a young mercenary trying to prove herself and Lebuin, a junior wizard trying to become a master wizard as fast as possible.
Ticca is becoming the great mercenary leader, and Lebuin has overcome many of his fears. Yet, Ticca still doesn’t understand what it means to be the great leader she must become, and Lebuin faces an even greater challenge by having to choose his true path. Together, with Ditani and an their elite team of warriors, they must find the key to stopping the undefeatable Nhia-Samri.
Meanwhile, Shar-Lumen attacks the leaders of the allied nations at their meeting, burning the imperial capital and cementing the war in place and forcing the gods to come out of their realm to take direct action. As the alliance struggles to assemble its combined armies, thousands die on both sides while Duke and Dohma fight to give Ticca and Lebuin time to discover the truth.
The solution isn’t what anyone expected. In order to stop the war, Ticca and Lebuin must put their lives on the line knowing one of them will likely die.
Since 2012, the first two books, Thread Slivers and Thread Strands, have been highly rated stories receiving 4 out of 5 stars on Goodreads and 4.5 out of 5 stars on Amazon with over 600 reviews to date.

Can I read excerpts from the books?
You sure can. I've pulled the first bits that introduce Ticca and Lebuin to you at the beginning of Thread Slivers and Thread Strands. For Thread Skein I've posted the entire first chapter. (Warning there are some spoilers there but not too bad).
- Thread Slivers' excerpt is from the first two chapters of the revised edition introducing Ticca and Lebuin. You may read it by clicking this link.
- Thread Strands' excerpt is sections from the first chapter of the revised edition looking in on Ticca and Lebuin. You may read it by clicking this link.
- Thread Skein's entire first chapter is ready. This chapter shows the work of four main characters Vesta, Ticca, Lebuin, and Lord Dohma. You may read it by clicking this link.
When will Thread Skein be released?
The manuscript has been through content editing, line editing (twice), and proofreading (twice). The initial eBook formatting is complete, and the eBook version is now with the professional editors who are going over it with a fine-toothed comb looking for any issues. Once the eBook is finished with proofing, the print layouts will come a couple of weeks later. While all that work is going on, my amazing graphic artist group will be working on the final cover and dust jacket designs.
In total, the remaining work is about two months of effort at least. Illnesses have plagued everyone this winter, causing a number of delays. Still, I expect to be submitting to Ingram, Amazon, Apple, Google Play, Nook, Kobo, and all the rest by the first half of May 2015. Ingram requires another couple of weeks to test the printing layouts and prepare the catalog entries. The eBook will take considerably less time. If there are no issues, the eBook will be up for sale by the middle of May 2015.
A test (PROOF) run will be done for me and my team to check for any set up errors. Once approved, the first 100 copies will be printed and shipped. The supporters of this Kickstarter will receive their books a few weeks before the print edition of Thread Skein goes up for sale publicly.
Right now, Thread Skein is scheduled to officially launch at the beginning of June 2015. My intention is to ship any book funded as part of this project as soon as all the professional editing, proofreading, and sign-offs are finished.
By traditional publishing measures, with well over 25,000 books sold to date, this saga is already a resounding success. And yet, traditional publishers are not interested in backing this series. If they had the final say in such matters, as in the past, this saga would never be published. Today, the world is different. We can take control of the publishing decisions thanks to indie publishing.
Like most of you, I’m married with a mortgage and family, meaning I should be squirrelling away money, instead of making these incredible adventures available to readers. What can I say? I'm an optimist. I believe you are too. Together, we can produce a top quality product as good as the very best big publishers!
The first funding goal for this project, after delivering the backer rewards, will actually cover only one-third (1/3) of the publication expenses. To cover all expenses $12,000 must be raised. So with the deepest of gratitude, I thank you for your support and ask you to do all you can to help, either by direct backing or by encouraging others to back the series too. I promise to work diligently, so that you will be proud you backed this book!

I have a lot of fans that aren't based in the United States, and I, of course, want to make the books available to them. Unfortunately, overseas shipping can be expensive, and so international orders require additional shipping fees to cover the shipping cost. In most cases, the estimated cost is near the actual price. If the cost is more than $10 over the calculated estimate, I'll contact you to determine how best to get your copy of the book to you. Don't worry, I'll get you the book. I have done some fun twisty things mailing books to difficult locations in the past.
Risks and challenges
Unlike many publication projects asking for funding of a book, Thread Skein is already fully written and has been through the primary editorial passes. Feedback from the editors and proofreaders has been very positive with only minor corrections to punctuation and capitalization. At this stage it will only take a few more steps to finish publishing it.
The series has already received over 600 reviews across Goodreads and Amazon, and I am experienced with indie publishing. Thanks to Kickstarter, I am already in the process of publishing the first two books through Ingram Publishing and talking with bookstore buyers. The final publication effort will focus on resolving any importing and typesetting issues and should require a minimal amount of time.
I see the main risks to this project to be very small, if at all. I have backups of the book, and there are many people with copies I can fall back on in the event of some really catastrophic issue with my computers. If there are any final printing issues, they will delay the release by weeks but not block it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
