Heroes of Mormon: a 2 Player collectors card game.
Heroes of Mormon was conceptualized 17 years ago while I was serving a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. As an avid gamer, my whole life, I often wondered why there wasn't a huge variety of church themed games available for our youth to play. I grew fond of card games like Pokemon, Magic and Star Wars, and what better way to learn about the Book of Mormon, than to have it in your hands as a game. We hope that our youth will get to know the people and geography in the Book of Mormon better through play. Our youth are already playing games often, so why not a fun Book of Mormon themed game for them to play in their free time.
Living Scriptures was generous enough to let us utilize their beautiful artwork they did with the Book of Mormon animated series. Unfortunately not all the characters and cities made it in the original animated series...so we are raising funds in order to compete the missing artwork for out game.
We have been working diligently on this project since January of 2018 until now. Many late nights was spent in the creation of this project. This has been a huge labor of love which we hope you will enjoy as much as we do.
The game is played similar to card games that you may already be familiar with, such as Pokemon and MTG (Magic). To play Heroes of Mormon, each player starts with 60 cards/deck per side. You may customize your cards as well. Both players start with 8 cards in their hand at the start of each game. Lamanites always goes first. The object of the game is to eliminate all of your opponent’s cards. This can be done in several ways: attrition, weapon attacks + battles and casualties of war.
There are different phases of play.
First phase is – Collect supplies. This is where you get new cards in to your supply pile, based on the cities that are in play. Cities have point values assigned to them and are tallied up. Your supply pile cards are used for: Action cards, deployment of troops, to initiate battles and attrition attacks.
Second phase- Attrition attacks. This is done when a city is left unopposed and you have troops stationed at a city. To attack, a player uses a card from supply pile and discards it to their used pile. The opponent loses card(s) based on the their cities point value for that given city.
Third phase is- Deployment of cities, lands, weapons and troops. Weapons and troops cost you cards from your supply pile which you may discard into your used pile. These cards are not lost.
Forth phase- Attacks. There are weapon attacks and battles during this phase. Initiation of an attack requires a card from your supply pile to be used.
Fifth phase- Casualties of war. Due to the nature of war, both side can foreseeably lose troops. Casualties of war may only be done if you station troops at a given city with a fortitude of 3 or more.
Sixth phase- Move. You may move troops from one city to another during this phase.
Seventh and last phase- Regroup. This is where you may retrieve some or all of your cards from your supply pile, assuming you have any left =)

We have a Funding goal of $4000
Achieving our initial funding goal, will allow us to commission all the rest of the unfinished artwork for the Basic Starter Set. We also intend on having all our cards come with UV coating to prevent wear and tear. Cards specs: 305gsm black-core matte card stock and are going to be standard poker size (2.5" by 3.5")
Our primary stretch goals is to release the remaining 120 cards that we originally anticipated for the launch of this game. Please note that we have the templates ready for all 240 gaming cards. We just need funding to finish the artwork for the remaining cards.
At $7000 we will unlock our first stretch goal. 60 of our 120 remaining cards will be available for our backers. The 60 additional cards will be available in ADD-ONs with expansion packs.
At $10,000 we will unlock our second stretch goal. All 120 of 120 remaining cards will be available for our backers. We will unlock 2 options: 60 more random expansion cards will be available. Also we will have as an ADD-ON, a Kickstarter exclusive all 240/240 cards available to purchase. A huge thanks to our friends for backing this project if we can reach this point.
At $12,000 all material for this game will be made available in Spanish/Espanol as well.
More Stretch Goals to come.
If our project does well we would love to have additional materials from Mormon, Moroni and Ether.
Our Stretch Goal Map
Here is a map of our projected goals we would love to do for this game. Obviously we will take it one step at a time.
All backers will be able to have access to whatever stretch goals we achieve via "add-ons".
- Expansion packs for the original concept of Heroes of Mormon, "add-ons" will be $10 for 15 randomized cards.
- When we unlock all 120 expansion cards for the original concept, our backer will be able to purchase the additional 120 cards as a Kickstarter Exclusive "Full Original Set of 240 cards" That "add-on" will cost and additional $20 for those who backed our starter deck or an additional $35 for those who backed our "Double Feature" and for those who backed our limited Captain's deck, an additional $20.
- Spanish language for cards will be available at $12,000, we are working our pricing and hope to just have it as a $1 "add-on" but as of now it's TBD.
- All other expansion packs will be available for purchase as "add-ons" and will cost $10 for 15 randomized cards.
- If we surpass all our funding goals we want to make this game available digitally as a app-download and to be available to play world-wide.
- All rewards shipping will be done through ADD-ONs. We will calculate your shipping based on your physical address.
We hope to get a warm reception for our project and hope you enjoy playing it for many years to come.

Risks and challenges
Risk and Challenges:
Risk: We have put forth a lot of work into this project before even asking our audience to back this. Since most of the work with this project has been done before we even made it to Kickstarter, we don't anticipate any major catastrophic problems that should arise. We have all of the template completed and formatted for our game. When we hit our funding goals we will have the amount needed to get the remaining artwork commissioned and finished. If we surpass our funding goal we hope to unlock our stretch goals and offer other languages and expansions to our Starter Set. We are currently working with the manufacturer to make sure we can offer the the Spanish version at the bulk price rate which will cut cost significantly.
Challenges: Delivery may be affected affected if the artist are unable to fulfill all the art commissions quickly. We also don't want to cut corners with the artwork either. We are hoping to get art similar to the artwork we are currently using from Living Scriptures. We will do our best to ensure that all our backers receive their rewards for the items they backed. It's not a matter of if we can get this done, it's how quickly can we get it done in. In order to reduce cost for the overall project and help us to reach our funding goals faster, shipping will not be included. This gives us greater flexibility to ship anywhere in the world and tailor it to your needs.
