About this project
I want to Design, Develop and some day build a Starship Enterprise mock up as a research laboratory & test bed for safe scientific studies and advancements in design. Once a Spaceship leaves orbit, there currently is no back up ship for rescue. In the spirit of Star Trek, Designing a Larger Space Ship as a mock up, would allow for a Safe place to do research and development of the systems that are needed for long-term space flights. Collage students could use this vehicle as a means to experience the effects of long-term confinement, just like a military submariner. We don't need to experience anymore space shuttle type disasters. To be able to design the Starship Enterprise for use as a mock up It has to have real engineering. Engineering that meets aerodynamic and space shuttle quality systems. Using these systems for long duration's will help to design more robust and reliable systems for the future without endangering lives. If I can successfully design the Starship Enterprise then I believe we can attain the funding to build it. The Starship Enterprise once built will pay for itself through grants, tourism, and colleges donations for student access. But I need Commercial level software to Design and do virtual aerodynamic testing and stress analysis. The price of this software can surprise those who are not in the design or engineering field. The software I'd like to use is called Solidworks.

I believe that if I can work on this full time. I can achieve the first phase of the design. The first phase includes the outer Hull and basic interior walls, flooring, structural supports and bridge.
With the Solidworks software I'll be able to run test analysis for stress and part tolerance stack up etc.
With the Solidworks software I'll be able to Create a video that will show the assembly of all the Phase One components. The second video will be a virtual tour of the Enterprise with full color graphics.This is one of the Solidworks packaged software capabilities. I'll be able to Design and Install parts in an virtual environment that can be immediately stress tested through the use of this software.

The future of space travel is now in the public's hands. We are the ones who will be sending the next ships to the Moon or Mars. If we want this to happen sooner than later continued research is needed. I want the Starship Enterprise to be the tool that helps that research happen.

The Enterprise! we will have to be very economical in designed.
Living space will be more like a submarine than like a hotel room.
Your bed may simply be a sleeping bag and some Velcro to hold it against the wall in zero gravity. Closet space may consist of a 3 foot by 6 foot locker.
The weight of any Space plane is a critical factor. Designing the Enterprise to Aviation standards is part of the Scientific study for long-term space flight. Once the basic Vehicle is designed.
We then need to design all of the internal systems to support life on-board the Enterprise. This would be the second phase of the engineering process. Things such as Carbon scrubbers and water recycling. Flight instruments and list goes on and on.
This is what makes this project so special! Designing all these systems for a larger sized Space Craft allow for discoveries to improve and or redesign things that don't work as well as we had hoped or planned.
The Military and Commercial Complex wants to spend $14 Billion dollars in the near future on Drone technology. NASA is promoting old fashioned vertical rockets for future flights to the space station. I want to start the design of a new direction. The Enterprise EFF-1101 project will be the tool to change minds and attitudes towards future space missions.
Working full time on this project, I believe that I can accomplish the first phase of the engineering with in 5 to 6 months. This is an ambiguous goal that can only be accomplished with professional level CAD Software. My goal is to have phase one accomplished by May or 2014.
Once the design has been accomplished I'll be able to produce two videos using the software package. One that is a step by step assembly of the Enterprise. The second a virtual tour showing the internal compartments such as the bridge and cafeteria etc. These Video's will take an additional 2 to 3 weeks to produce and distribute.
I am committed to work as hard as necessary to accomplish the goals I have set forth. This is only the beginning of a great and beneficial project. The Enterprise EFF-1101 will have benefits for everyone involved.
Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge to this project is time and commercial level software. With out enough funding to work full time it could takes years to accomplish.
Life always has a way of interrupting those projects you want to do on the side. Working on this project full time will allow me to focus on it without interruptions.
I have been designing and building since I was a young teen. You can get an Idea of the work I've already done by visiting the Enterprise Federation Foundation Website (www.enterprisefederation.com). I am no stranger to working 12 hour days 7 days a week to meet a schedule or a dead line.
Having worked in the Aerospace industry, this becomes a normal part of life.
