Monkey Ruins!

Andrey Fetisov’s wonderful picture of Monkey Ruins is one of the magical sites we chose to fulfill the Art is Strong stretch goal.

Before seeing the art, and before really having an idea of what Andrey was capable of (OK, OK, I should have known, given the Call of Cthulhu Coloring Book), I’d decided to slot the illustration into Chapter 2: Creating Characters, as an illustration for the Beast rune. As you’ll see below, we got more than I expected! Hence I added a small RobSays sidebar to the text, that reads like so:

Baboon Art: The decision to illustrate the Beast rune with a picture of Monkey Ruins? Good. MOB’s decision to commission the piece from Andrey? Great! Putting a wonderful picture of baboons in the middle of the chapter about creating your player characters? Maybe not perfect. So this is an apology: it’s too late to add another player character race to this book, but if there’s anyone interested, we’ll get to baboons soon.

Some baboons say the fallen statue is of their once-great monkey king Apeymandias, others say the king's name was actually Ozymandrill

What? No suit or guns? Enough of this monkey business. :-p

+Andreas - yes, we love legitimate the-ater too! I was sorely tempted to get Andrey to put a ruined Statue Liberty somewhere in the background, but we went with a fallen Apeymandias instead.

After seeing that picture I'd definitely want to play a baboon!

Considering the popularity of the Apes Victorious RPG, there's definitely a market for baboon PCs. (I realize that baboons aren't apes, but I suspect there's a lot of overlap in the audience.)
