FIDO (The Fundamentals & Improvement of Dog Ownership) magazine is built on primarily sponsorship and volunteers. Each issue celebrates the canine-human bond with informative articles on a broad range of topics important to every Maine dog owner.
The goal of this magazine is to create an active and supportive community for local Maine dogs and their owners to share, learn, interact, and engage.
We are looking to officially launch the magazine this July, in time for Summer and all of the local activities! We will then embark on a 4X per year print schedule. Distribution is planned for 1,000 copies/issue.
Online, our goals are to offer a lot more interactivity on the web site: videos submitted by readers, online-only content, a gallery of owner-submitted photos, contests, shows, and much more.
Our mission is three-fold:
- Fundamentals - Providing training, nutrition and canine wellness tips to help dogs live long and fulfilling lives.
- Improvement - Volunteering and helping local animal welfare organizations to save and enrich the lives of homeless and abused animals.
- Collaborate - Influencing dog owners and experts alike to share inspirational stories about local heroes and organizations that are doing good in the Maine community.
Contributing to the Dog Community:
Dogs are an important part of our lives. Part of our mission is to ensure the health and safety of all dogs, so FIDO Magazine continually gives back to the dog community through gifts, donations and commitments. Your subscription helps us support these programs.
We will also establish marketing programs with local vendors and non-profit organizations to raise awareness of local issues and FIDO Magazine at the same time.

Risks and challenges
Do you feel print is dead? Don’t! We want your printed copy to be the centerpiece and conversation for years to come in your home. With a printed magazine your guest will share stories and their love of local experts and dogs.
Putting out a publication is rewarding, but it doesn't come without challenges. However, we've done an extensive amount of research and have already considered how to address some of the common challenges that might arise when printing a magazine.
First, we're collaborating with people who we've already had experience working with. Second, we've done due diligence to get estimates from three printers, all being referrals from friends who have published magazines. Plus, we've gotten estimates for every printed piece and reward item. Last but not least, we have fulfillment services ready to go and we've calculated solid shipping figures.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
