THE STORY

Inspired by real-life cases, Trust Me is a feature film that tells the story of Madeline, a college freshman who accuses a student leader at her school of raping her. However, the school administration does nothing, and so she and her friends take matters into their own hands. When they reach out to the media for help, the ensuing ordeal will test everyone alike and show their true colors - students, teachers, reporters, victims, perpetrators, and those caught in the middle.

THE TEAM

While the film is about a serious social subject, our number one priority is telling a great story and creating a film that people will enjoy watching. That's why we've assembled an awesome creative team, mostly involving students finishing up their time at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. But more than that, our collective experience involves work at the Cannes Film Festival, on Off-Broadway shows, and in professional film and television companies.

Our crew is the image of professionalism, except when confronted with pigeons.
Our crew is the image of professionalism, except when confronted with pigeons.

We're blessed with an incredible amount of talented (and attractive, if you watch the video) people, with the one catch that...

Everyone is doing this for free.

And that means everyone. We're all doing this for the love of film, and because we want to make a movie that is entertaining but also has some social import. Which is where you come in.

THE BUDGET

We've done our best to get things for free or for cheap. We're shooting in our apartments and borrowing equipment from generous friends. But films cost money, and so we're asking for $3400, which will be broken down thusly:

  • $1800 - Equipment rental and insurance
  • $500 - Art! (props, set, costumes)
  • $600 - Craft service
  • $300 - Expendables (things we can't rent, e.g. gaffer's tape)
  • $200 - Transportation and other miscellany

Risks and challenges

Producing any film on a budget like ours is a challenge. We'll need to stretch our resources, but without sacrificing the quality of the film. Thanks to you, that'll be a lot easier. But we'll still have to focus on getting this movie shot, edited, and completed by next year so that you all can see it.

The other challenge is in the story - we want to make a serious film about a very real subject, but we don't want it to be a drag to watch. We're still storytellers, and we want to tell a good story. Our script strikes a great balance right now, and it's our aim to keep that balance as we progress through shooting.

Obstacles will arise - some expected, some unexpected - as is the nature of an independent film. But with this team and with your help, we believe that we can work through anything and create a great film.
