The fictional novel that it's taken 125 years to write!
The killings began without warning. 125 years ago, almost to the day, the first of five women was brutally murdered on the streets of Whitechapel in London by the monster who would become known as Jack the Ripper. They were crimes so horrific that they sent shock waves around London, around England, and around the world. We feel the shock waves still. There was something about these particular murders in this particular city in that particular year that has haunted us to this very day. Why is that?
And what did a 14 year old Hungarian boy, touring the UK with an American circus, have to do with the murders? And why was it that on the 10th of November, one day after the horrific death of Jack the Ripper's final victim, that young Hungarian boy was admitted to Colney Hatch mental institute? No straight-jacket could hold him, no locked door could imprison him, no handcuffs could bind him. Every morning, staff at the mental hospital would find him out of his cell, naked and asleep in the corridor. How did he escape? How? And then, almost in a puff of smoke, the young Hungarian was gone, never to be seen again.
In 1920, Arthur Conan Doyle, celebrated author of the Sherlock Holmes mysteries, arrived in Cottingley village in Yorkshire to meet with the girls who took the infamous fairy photographs. While there, in the woods, by the edge of the beck, he received a message from a creature claiming to be his spirit guide. There was someone he must save. Someone who he must bring back into the light. Someone whose soul he must rescue from the grip of a demon known as Cthulhu. And so Conan Doyle leaves immediately for London, with the express intention of befriending the world-renowned magician Harry Houdini.
Featuring a cast of thousands, including Harry Houdini, Arthur Conan Doyle, Jack the Ripper, Cthulhu, the Cottingley Fairies and Elsie Wright & Frances Griffiths, 'Houdini, Conan Doyle & the Curious Case of Jack the Ripper' is a tale of magic, murder, horror, and demonic possession. It is written by Paul Voodini from an original idea by Iain Dunford. Both Paul and Iain are experienced magicians and mind-readers, and both of them have long had an interest in the occult, the mysterious, and the paranormal. From these weird worlds comes 'Houdini, Conan Doyle, & the Curious Case of Jack the Ripper'. A murder mystery and supernatural melodrama like no other.
