Hi, I'm Colleen Stratton. I'm a Los Angeles-based artist. This project will offer museum-quality Fine Art Prints of my watercolors of magical guardian spirit animals that I call Anam Caras. Funds raised will be used to purchase a professional wide-format printer and produce personalized prints of the Anam Caras.
These Anam Caras Fine Art Prints make wonderful gifts. You can help support the Anam Caras by contributing to this campaign and receive a unique personalized gift to give to your loved one.
Since I was a teenager, I’ve been drawing, painting and writing stories about fantastical guardian spirit-animals I call Anam Caras. The earliest reference to an Anam Cara was the 5th century in Ireland. They’re name means Soul Friends in Gaelic. Anam Caras have an important mission: world peace. They believe “A compassionate world begins with you.” An Anam Cara is a friend to your soul who will guide you and protect you.
I painted a series of watercolors of the Anam Caras in the shape of letters that have become the basis for my collection of Anam Caras Fine Art Prints. Each image is paired with an inspiring blessing from the Anam Cara.
It’s been a lifelong dream of mine to share the Anam Caras with the world. I had been giving prints of my Anam Caras art to friends as gifts and occasionally selling by word of mouth for a decade, so selling fine art prints online seemed like a natural progression. So, I built a website and a dear friend loaned me the money to buy a new printer. It had just come out and was reported to be a giant leap forward in technology. I thought I was on my way...
But, my new printer frustrated me to no end! More often than not, I ended up in tears. It produced beautiful image quality, but it had trouble loading thick paper and, in the process, damaged a lot of expensive paper. It was a huge problem because I love printing on the world’s finest papers, especially thick archival watercolor papers.
One day in desperation, I reached out to my favorite paper manufacture's tech support representative for help. I was referred to a master fine art printmaker and educator who has devoted his life to teaching others the art of fine art printing.
It was magical. Fine art printing requires both technical and artistic expertise. Meeting my new mentor was a game changer! I discovered a world of possibilities!
He taught me how to consistently produce prints of my art that were even more beautiful than the previous ones. He recommended that I sell my desktop printer and purchase a larger, professional model, which is the size of a piano.
I’m raising funds to purchase a Canon professional wide-format printer so that I can produce museum-quality prints of my Anam Caras art.
JUST ADDED! To sweeten the deal, I added this delightful print of Peri and Noem!
EXCLUSIVE FOR KICKSTARTER: I created a new personalized print for this campaign. They are a personalized variation of my Anamabet Collection.

Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge is shipping the prints to far-away places in time for the holidays. One thing, I know for sure, is that things (especially shipping) always take longer than expected. I'm in Los Angeles. If you're on the West Coast, or even the East Coast, it shouldn't be a problem. But, if you're outside the US, I suspect it will be insanely expensive to get it to you by Dec. 25th and that's not an option for me. I can send a digital version in December, in case your package doesn't arrive in time. You may also consider giving an Anam Caras print for Valentine's Day.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
