How does it work?
The Prescient AudioCase is as simple to attach to your iPhone 5/5s or Samsung Galaxy S4 as any case: pull the two pieces apart, slide in your phone and re-engage the top. The case automatically connects to the iPhone 5/5s Lightning Connector or the Samsung Galaxy S4’s micro USB Connector. (A USB / micro USB cable will be provided with each AudioCase.)
Once the AudioCase™ is joined to the smartphone connector, switch it on and the AudioCase is docked and ready for action!
Plug in the included USB cable to the AudioCase micro USB port and the other end to a powered USB port or a USB wall charger. Both the smartphone and AudioCase will be charged at the same time. A LED will indicate when the charge is complete. You may also charge the AudioCase separately.
Charging your phone from the AudioCase
The Prescient AudioCase features its own battery as a primary source to power its electronics. As an optional feature you can charge your smartphone from the AudioCase internal battery. To charge your smartphone, turn on the battery switch and the phone will indicate it is charging until the AudioCase battery is discharged. The LED will indicate the state of charge. If the battery is fully discharged the AudioCase will be powered off.
The Prescient AudioCase has been developed through the working prototype level, and we must now fine tune the development of the Prescient Mini ThinDriver™, the thumping heart and special soul of the product. It is the Mini ThinDriver™ that with delivers the incredible audio to music fans, video watchers and conference callers, alike. Finally high quality smartphone video is paired with high quality smartphone audio!
Prescient Audio has collaborated with the premier product development firm, Product Development Technologies (PDT), and renowned speaker design expert, Robert True of True Technologies, Inc, to perfect the product.
Before AudioCase, if you wanted better or louder sound from your smartphone, you'd need a separate speaker device or have to settle for cheap amplifying attachments that actually do little to nothing to deliver better sound quality along with added volume. The Prescient AudioCase solves these problems with the amazing Mini ThinDriver™ audio speaker, powerful amplifier and extended battery back up, all integrated within a durable, slim and attractive case for the best, simplest smartphone audio possible.
ENGINEERING: Key Technological developments
1) A sealed acoustical chamber was created to isolate the front and back pressures of the driver.
2) A back pressure port was tuned for optimal acoustical balance.
3) A through port was created to enable the phone’s internal speaker to be exposed and to increase the sound volume output, when in use.
1) Additional battery powers the Prescient AudioCase and extends the life of the phone enabling longer usage times.
2) A Texas Instrument chipset serves as the audio amplifier.
3) The heart of the product, the Mini ThinDriver™, is placed for optimum audio output.

Our first working prototype has been developed for the Samsung Galaxy S4. The smartphone camera, flash, speaker, microphone and all buttons are still functional as designed by the manufacturer. The acoustic chamber, which is balanced with porting, was tested to ensure proper audio output quality.
What is ThinDriver™ Technology?
It began with Prescient’s first product: the amazing ThinDriver™ TD-12, a super-thin 12 inch subwoofer, the most radical loudspeaker design in 90 years. The high-performance, 1000 Watt loudspeaker boasts a brilliant re-positioning of the components from behind the loudspeaker to its perimeter frame, resulting in a mounting depth of only 2.25”, the shallowest available and an incredibly light weight of only 8 Lbs, delivering amazing audio depth and clarity. A typical 1000 Watt driver is 10" deep and weighs 40 Lbs!
We dramatically scaled down TD-12's patent-pending technology to produce the Mini ThinDriver™, which provides 10 times more surface area than any existing smartphone audio speaker!
The Mini ThinDriver will be integrated into the Prescient AudioCase, the first of its kind, delivering mind-blowing sound quality and volume.

The Sound of the Human Voice: Mini ThinDriver™ Technology is designed to deliver enhanced audio and the full frequencies of the human voice are missing from current portable electronic device audio speakers.
A voice frequency or voice band is one of the frequencies, within part of the audio range, that is used for the transmission of speech. In telephony, the usable voice frequency band ranges form approximately 300 Hz to 3400 Hz. Typically smartphones only play frequencies above 700 Hz. The voiced speech of a typical adult male will have a base frequency of 85 to 180 Hz, and a typical adult female from 165 to 255 Hz. A typical child ranges from 255 Hz to 500 Hz. Thus, the fundamental frequency of most speech fall below the bottom of the "voice frequency" band an dwell below typical smartphone speakers. However, enough of the harmonic series will be represent from the missing fundamental to create the impression of hearing the fundamental tone.
In other words you have never heard the real voices of family, friends, or others on a smartphone - but you can on the Prescient AudioCase. And, everything else will sound infinitely better, too, like music, of course.
We ran some tests, represented by the graph below, which show how a Prescient AudioCase (yellow line) will deliver more volume (higher db / frequencies) and better audio quality (a flatter and more detailed line on average) than the typical smartphone (blue line).

Who’s Behind AudioCase's Innovation?
I am Paul Niedermann and I invented the Prescient AudioCase. I have a passion for music and great sound in any environment. I started building speaker cabinets when I was young. When I tried to achieve incredible sound in my car, I didn't want to sacrifice too much interior space and thought there had to be a better way. So I invented ThinDriver™ Technology and, started designing what would become the TD-12, our 12" subwoofer.
I established Prescient Audio in 2011 and continued developing and refining the ThinDriver™ TD-12 driver to be thinner, lighter weight, more powerful, cooler-running and scalable to a broad range of sizes and shapes, while delivering high performance audio quality. In 2013, with the assistance of manufacturing partners, I began manufacturing these new subwoofer audio products that I continue to develop for the marketplace.
During this time I noticed (like many of you), that the options for people who demand better sound quality and volume from their smartphones were pretty limited without the use of bulky accessories. I decided my next project was to create a solution to this problem: and thus,The Prescient AudioCase was born.
Why are we on Kickstarter?
We brought the ThinDriver™ TD-12 to market on our own. through this experience and the past experience of our team, we know how to get a product from concept to production. For the Prescient AudioCase, we've already invested in the award winning technology, robust engineering and have prototypes in hand. Now we need help getting the AudioCase across the finish line, Your support will allow us to take these final steps to prepare for the marketplace.

Production Development & Milestones
Commercial production for the Samsung Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5/5S is a large undertaking and will require many resources and additional funding. Once the funding goal is reached, we will immediately move into following crucial phases:
•Detailed design including failure modes and effects system and component analysis to complete the Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5/5s projects is underway. Much of the work is done. The Samsung S4 Prescient AudioCase™ is the first prototype and much of the design and engineering will carry over to the Apple 5/5s commercial product. (Our design team already has a MFI license with Apple to develop the platform through the Lighting connector for the Apple 5/5s Prescient AudioCase.)
•Validation of mini ThinDriver™: Our loudspeaker expert (Robert True, True Technologies Inc.) has been successfully developing acoustical product for over 20 plus years. Bob was Paul’s consultant for the original ThinDriver™ and is instrumental in the mini ThinDriver™ validation process. The design is completed; next version prototypes are scheduled for completion and testing by the end of March 2014.
•Commercially approved suppliers: TS-16949 approved suppliers have been incorporated and others are being considered for the injection molding of the rugged impact resistant housing and internal components. Suppliers have been chosen for the battery, charging unit, and PCB with TI chipset.
•Final Test and Regulatory: Everything is ready for test, including drop test, shock, ESD and FCC testing.
•The assembly of the Mini ThinDriver™ to the AudioCase™ along with test verification and packaging is slated to occur in Rockford, IL at our Colt Road facility.
•Finally, we know our Kickstarter supporters would prefer to not wait six months for their reward. We will use any additional Kickstarter funding above our goal to expedite the Prescient™ AudioCase™ to get one in your hands as soon as possible.

Risks and challenges
To be sure, it is a challenging project to bring the first AudioCase (Samsung Galaxy S4) through to production in just six months. A second product (Apple 5/5s) is an added challenge. That is why we have assembled a team with deep experience bringing new products to commercialization. Together, we will create relationships with the best quality suppliers and mitigate pre-production failure modes. Overseas suppliers can be challenging to manage from a logistics perspective. To reduce risk we have engaged a program manager overseas to work directly with the suppliers, a degreed engineer with hundreds of millions of dollars of commercial success. Additionally, our team includes an industry loudspeaker development expert (True Technologies) who has developed production lines for over 50 speakers and integrated devices and has good business relationships with many suppliers and customers. Lastly, and most importantly, is the development process from the original concept to prototype completion and now commercial product development. PDT (Product Development Technologies), our product development partner, has brought hundreds of consumer electronics products to market and is a recognized telephony product development design firm.
