About this project
UPDATED REWARDS: All reward tiers $15 and up will now receive a digital wallpaper of Club Caveman art. $150 and $250 reward levels will also now receive 1 t-shirt. (We cannot change any rewards on the right column once there are backers, which is why we are noting the change here.)
Club Caveman is a mobile app that combines movie-quality animation with all the interactivity of an iPad or iPhone. Think of it as a cartoon brought to life, a character that you can play with and talk to. It’s a kid-friendly app that you wouldn’t mind playing yourself.
We are combining art and storytelling with mobile technology.
With Club Caveman, you control the action using voice recognition technology and gesture inputs. If you want our caveman to jump, say "jump" and he will. If you want him to hit himself, say "punch" and he will. All of this is done in a world created by some of Hollywood’s top animators.
Consider this the pilot episode, and we are establishing basic communication and understanding with this prehistoric pal. Over time and future iterations, we will watch him become more and more civilized.
HOW WILL THE MONEY BE USED?
This has been a side project of ours for more than a year, and we have much of the animation completed. We have a solid prototype, but we still need to refine the technology under the hood. Every time we show the prototype we are blown away with the response, so we want to bring it to market as quickly as possible.
With your help, we will be able to devote full-time hours for a couple of months and bring a simple but great product to market. Any additional funds will be used to add more animation, develop more sophisticated voice recognition, and use a real-time 3D rendering engine for a drastically increased number of interactions.
For now, it will be for iOS devices only, but we hope to bring it to other platforms as the market demands.

We want you to have a piece of the experience in a tangible way. Most of the rewards include the beautiful art of the app, including a thank you card, a print, movie poster, a t-shirt and scrapbook.
Or you can you immortalize yourself in the credits of the app, as a caricature by one of our talented artists, as the creator of custom animations or even as a CG character.
A big thank you to all of the people who helped us with the video/page. Lloyd Barnett (VFX), Matt Cavanaugh (sound), Chris Galloway (lighting/camera), Katelyn Galloway (hair & make up), Justin Hemsley (Photoshop), Quest Marks (director), Jeff Sweat (marketing), Matt Sweat (editing) and Big Boss Creative (green screen/space).
When the app is launched in the Apple App Store, we'll "gift" the app to you through iTunes. After the project is funded, backers will receive survey. You will be able to give us the AppleID of the recipient of the app.
Unfortunately, as of right now, we are only committing to iOS, primarily for resource considerations. We hope our app is a hit, and then we'll roll it out to Android. We also envision a possibility where we could release it as a Mac app and some day an Apple TV app, assuming some day they launch that product.
Though many love Android, there are 4,000 devices to account for, making it very challenging to ensure quality. Check this chart out.
He is pretty awesome, but as of now, he's single. Maybe down the road, he'll meet his species-saving soul mate.
Is there something you wish were a reward or a collection of items as a reward that you don't see? Let us know in the comments. Maybe we can add something. :)
Yes, as of now, he only understands English. (We don't count "Caveman" as a language because we don't understand it ourselves. :) Someday, we hope to do additional language options. However, a lot of the interaction will come from touch and motion gestures.
In this first app, we encounter Club for the first time. We begin basic communication with him. You talk & he listens. Over time, we'll gradually see him become more and more civilized in each new installment (an installment would be the equivalent to a new app). You can imagine that maybe in this first app he begins to talk back to you in grunts, and we translate for you. And in the future, he'll begin saying words. He'll need to learn how to do stuff like start a fire and build a shelter (with your help of course). He'll learn about basic tools/inventions (the wheel, fulcrum, etc.) Imagine on the other end of his journey, he goes to space. In this grand arc, we can never take the "cave" completely out of the caveman. Will he stay civilized or return to his primitive roots? Stay tuned! :)
As far as the storyline goes for this first app, we are still fine-tuning the user-experience. Based on testing and user feedback, we'll try to find the sweet spot between being story-driven and driven by you, the user.
