Follow Stephen - the hero of our film - as he searches for the picture-perfect way to propose to his sweetheart Jane. Unfortunately for Stephen, Jane’s jealous dog has other ideas and will stop at nothing to sabotage his advances.
The story is very personal to our Director, Westley Wood. Written from experience, this comedy of errors and mishaps are all metaphors for the challenges in finding that perfect moment to propose, from choosing the ring to picking the right location and what to say.
This film is for all the hopeless romantics, as well as those who love them!
About Westley Wood (Writer/Director).
Westley has spent 15 years working in and around the animation industry. From his beginnings as a puppet maker for Mackinnon and Saunders, he went on to become development producer for Cosgrove Hall Films to Creative Director/Producer for kids’ channel CITV. Westley has been nominated for a multitude of awards including Young Entrepeneur of the Year, BAF, and Promax to name a few. Most recently, Westley developed, produced and directed the stop motion show ‘Compost Corner’ for CITV, which was subsequently nominated for a BAFTA.
Westley spends his working days writing and producing/directing content for CITV, from promotional campaigns in both live action and animated formats to animated content. Additional to this, Wes manages the product development and ever-growing crew of Animation Toolkit.
Nestled in Manchester’s own MediaCityUK (home to both ITV and the BBC) sits Animation Toolkit! From its humble beginnings in founder Westley Wood’s garage, seven years on it is now a well established business, producing a multitude of armatures and animation supplies to the animation industry and students alike. It is due to the hard work and connections built up around this company that Pooch Proposal is even a possibility.
Amongst our rewards we are offering genuine Animation Toolkit limited edition armatures, specially designed and packaged for Pooch Proposal, so you can have the opportunity to both help us make our film whilst buying the skeleton to build your own!
We are also lucky enough to share our office with Flix Facilities, who have generously given us ample studio space as well providing the post-production facilities, which will obviously help massively when it comes to filming and editing the final film.
Making a stop-motion film is no easy task. Literally everything has to be built from scratch, from the sets, to the props, the costumes and, of course, the stars of the show - the puppets! Everything you see, even for a fraction of a second, is lovingly designed, sculpted and painted by our very talented crew to make this beautiful world come alive in front of your very eyes.
Neither Westley or Animation Toolkit will make money for their work on the film; They would rather see the film come to fruition and be the best it can be!
However we can’t expect all the people working to help us make the film work for nothing. That being said, everyone involved is offering their time and ability at a very special rate to help make the film a reality without sacrificing the look and finish of the film. We will also use the money to cover materials to make the sets, props and puppets.
As well as Kickstarter’s own fees and charges for the service they provide, there are also of course the costs of honoring your rewards - and we have some great ones!
So, as you can see, we really can’t do it without you!
If we are fortunate enough to achieve our goal amount of £26,000, once celebrations have died down (don’t worry, none of the money will be spent on drinks!) we would like to use the extra funds to enter as many festivals as we can, to let as many people see the film as possible!
We would also love to incorporate paid internships, so more people may have the opportunity to begin their career in this remarkable but niche industry!
Our extremely talented crew have worked for some of the biggest names in industry, including Aardman, Disney, Warner Brothers, Nickelodeon, CITV and CBBC, working on a variety of projects including Corpse Bride, Fantastic Mr Fox, Count Duckula, Looney Tunes and The Pirates of the Caribbean.
They have all offered up their time and skills to make Pooch Proposal a reality. They bring together over 30 years of experience in the industry. Everyone involved is a professional, offering an incredible range of talents and expertise to our film.
So as you can see we have the most talented people at our disposal, to make this film the very best it can be.

Risks and challenges
Of course the main risk we have is not raising the money! This is an all-or-nothing campaign, so if we don’t reach our full £26,000 goal than our film will remain a dream. We want to raise enough money in order to pay for materials, animation and production costs. We hope to finish the film in 4-5 months, although we acknowledge that life comes with potential setbacks from time to time. While we have tried to be as realistic as possible with our pledge delivery dates, any unforeseen production delays might inevitably push back any rewards that are dependent on the films completion (eg. DVD, online film access, props).
We also hope to send the film to as many festivals as possible, while opening it up for potential Oscar and BAFTA nomination - we want this film to go as far as it can! We hope that you our backers will remain understanding and supportive during this time, safe in the knowledge that we will make the film available to you, our incredibly generous backers, as soon as we’re able!
