THINK AND WONDER, WONDER AND THINK will take place on Minneapolis’ historic Stone Arch Bridge in conjunction with Northern Spark.
My project will light the Stone Arch Bridge with the theme of Northern Spark, a short quote by one of my favorite authors and artists, Theodor Geisel, known to most as Dr. Seuss. The phrase THINK AND WONDER, WONDER AND THINK will span both sides of the bridge in the form of illuminated sign text and will be on display for the week leading up to the festival, turning off at sunrise on the morning of Sunday, June 10th. Letters will hang on the bridges’ outer walls between the arches and will stand 8’ tall with varying widths. THINK AND WONDER will be visible from the Guthrie Theater side of the river; WONDER AND THINK will be visible from St. Anthony Main.
The letters will illuminate the night with a message that can be enjoyed by a large audience from miles around. The simplicity of the words will set the tone for the festival, leaving room for interpretation within the context of other Northern Spark projects as well as the night’s sense of imagination and magic. I want to highlight the creativity and excitement inherent in the city, the river, and the summer air when thousands of people join together on the bridge and its surrounding riverbanks to enjoy the festival.
I need your help to make this project happen. Your support will go toward the cost of materials and fabrication, installation and lighting. As a thanks for your support, I will be making a variety of rewards. Every contributor will receive a custom-designed postcard with a hand written thank-you note from me. Donations starting at $25 will be rewarded with your choice of one or more 5" tall letters painted in any color (glitter optional) with either a hanging back or magnet back.
Donations starting at $100 will receive a one or more 12" tall letters, each with a one-of-a-kind hand painted illustration based on the letter you select. All medium letters will have hanging backs.
