SUPERS! was originally released in 2010. Written by Simon Washbourne, of Beyond Belief Games. SUPERS! gained a following as a rules light RPG that expertly mimicked superhero action. Instead of having to stop the action to look up rules, the simple and robust mechanics allowed for ease of play. Character creation and learning the rules took minutes followed by hours of fun.
In 2012, Zenith Comics, in association with HAZARD Stds, gained the rights to SUPERS. The first order of business was to establish a place where SUPERS! heroes, could come together to share experiences with the system. Judges and heroes alike came out to show their support. Pages quickly filled up with hours of discussion on game play. All the talk made it clear that SUPERS! emulated the feel of four color comics very well. It also revealed that behind the mask, SUPERS! needed a few tweaks to this great game to the next level.
It was decided that instead of a second edition, the game just needed a revision. This would include clarification of rules and a slew of examples on just how the game operates. It would also address things that were left out of the first edition, such as comprehensive vehicle rules and certain powers that have become a staple in comics. Lastly, several options for Judges to tailor the game to their table would be included to personalize the SUPERS! experience. After all, once SUPERS! is in your hands, it's your game.
We are bringing, SUPERS! RED (Revised Edition) to Kickstarter for many reasons. We feel that by bringing this to the fans, we can get what we need to put the finishing touches on things and launch the book in style! We would like to use the funds we raise here to give SUPERS! fantastic looking art and a clean layout.
Even the lowest buy in for the Kickstarter will give everyone access to the WHITE Copy. This is the manuscript turned in by Heroes in Charge, Aldo Regalado and Russ Boyd. The WHITE manuscript is big on ideas and short on editing. Although in rough format, we believe that this is the best version of the manuscript to date and we hope everyone who chips in will take it and run with it. Anyone who chips in at 5$ or more will also have access to the play test submission doc. You can play the game and then tell us what you liked and didn't. Jot down what worked for you and didn't. Giving us feedback will not only help us refine what we already have, but also give us access to players and play testing we might not have come by on our own. After all, if you want to see how tough your toys are... let everyone play and see what happens!
As an extra piece of fun through Kickstarter we are setting up a special tier for enthusiastic supporters:
In the comics, when a job is too big for one hero to handle on his own, he assembles a team of like minded SUPERS! to join the fray. This is what we've tried to do with this project. Primary writing duties for the revision were handled by Aldo Regalado (http://www.rpgnow.com/index.php?manufacturers_id=4637) and Russ Boyd (http://www.rpgnow.com/index.php?manufacturers_id=4701. Interior art and layout will be handled by Ade Smith (http://mesozoic-press.t83.net/). To create a full comic book experience in the pages of SUPERS!, Alex Williamson (http://www.hadesillustrations.com/) and DT Butchino (http://www.rpgnow.com/index.php?x=0&y=0&author=DT%20Butchino) will round out the team to see a variety of styles and takes on the art. Cover art will be handled by Ariel Medel (https://www.facebook.com/amedelillustration). We can't begin to thank these talented professionals for stepping forward to make the project what it has been so far.

Risks and challenges
Like any Kickstarter, there will be difficulties that spring up that we haven't planned for. We have a crack team assembled to deal with these issues as they arise, and like a stack of Mooks arrayed against a well trained hero, knock 'em down!
The main risk to the project are paper cuts. Every year, many talented writers and artists are savagely mauled by ruthless paper, leading to whining, childish behavior, and a dip in the national bandage supply. We have done everything we can to prevent this but there are always accidents. Supervillains are also a major stumbling block. As our project is called SUPERS!, we tried not to discriminate against the evil-y inclined, by suggesting that all spandex clad, mantra shouting persons are heroes! We don't think they're buying it. Just in case, we have members of (insert your preferred Super Powered Fighting Force here) standing by.
It is possible that SUPERS! RED will not get funded. In this case, we will go back to the drawing board and try again to get this book out in force. While the main document is done, save for some play testing, Art and editing / layout take time. Our goal is to take the WHITE Copy and turn it into the finest engine of super heroed AWESOME that we can. With varied artists and staff waiting for the SUPERS! Signal to go up, sometimes schedules can get wonky. We ask that you are patient as we craft the book and fend off SUPERvillains in the process.
We have another project also in the works that you might have heard of... HEROIC, our first independent comic book, launched at Kickstarter in July. We surpassed our goal by a bit, allowing us to fund the comic as well as gain Film Industry Super Girl, Jen Page, to pose for an alternate cover! The book is coming along nicely with layouts complete and half of the page count penciled. The first 8 pages are in the coloring process and will be sent to backers as a coming soon thank you! As the team that brought you HEROIC will be different from the one that will bring you SUPERS!, there shouldn't be any complications.
Thank you for taking the time to look at our project and...
