About this project
I'm a Minneapolis based portrait photographer and have been producing a body of work for the past two years. The support I've received from friends on Facebook has been vast and unbelievably positive. Time to get the image off the web and on the wall. Time for the exhibition. In order to make this happen I need the help of Kick Starter and all of you. When it comes to story telling I believe it's the state of wonder that triggers imagination.
The portraits chosen for this exhibition are timeless and will invite you in to their world. These are the key elements I strive for in my work.
The show will have 20-25 portraits color / black & white. I have designed custom frames for all the images, as these portraits are not complete without the frames. One series within the show is titled Millennium. This series will have quite elaborate frames. All frames are seamless and casted in resin. I'll be working with a local sculptor to take the designs and create the prototypes from which we will then make a mold. From this mold we'll cast the frames in a poly-resin material.
As for printing, something unique is planned. Working with a master printer, the black & white portraits will be 20x24 silver gelatin fiber contact prints. The B&W portraits will have clean, simple seamless frames cast in resin. Prints and frames alike will be of my design and under my direction in collaboration with two local sculptors and one master printer here in Mpls.
The color prints will be pigment fiber prints and the black and white prints will be Silver Gelatin. Due to the dark tones of the B&W prints I must add the cost of museum glass. This is needed to cut glare and reflection from the amount of black in the images. In addition, many hours will be in the darkroom so some of this funding will also go to chemicals, silver paper, pigment paper and space rental.
Working together, with your help in donations, we will make this exhibition together and have it become reality.
Risks and challenges
One of the biggest challenges will be producing this show from the bottom up. All frames will be hand made, cast in resin. All the prints will be hand printed with techniques that combine digital and analogue. It's a new world in Photography and I plan to take advantage. My main focus relies on the frames working with the prints. My work is not complete until prints are united with frames. If any issues arise with the making of the frames, Ill be working with two seasoned sculptors and have complete trust in their talent. I have complete faith in my master printer in the event there are issues with the printing.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
