Have a question?
2 days to go :D
the anticipation is killing me, lol
I would, but it's up to Valve, not me! I'll just be sending backers a download link for the final game.
Are you going to make the game available through Steam?
I'll be asking for addresses once I actually have the CDs (so I'll be sure they're all accurate, in case anyone ends up moving).
Are you sending out a survey to get the address for mailings of the hardcopy?
I'm so excited this is finally happening; all I can say is thank you! I just managed to find a job myself after being unemployed for 8 months, so I can relate to the subject matter, as I've battled both self doubt and depression in that time. I'm just glad that there is a game that could help other people understand those feelings!
So close to the final version!
I'm hoping to order CDs this week. It's exciting!
getting closer... :D
Sweet! Another reason to find my Windows Xbox controller in the box of miscellaneous tech stuff.
Jason Clark: Sorry I missed your previous comment before now!
There will be controller support, in addition to keyboard controls.
I know there are ways to make Windows programs run on Mac computers, but it's not something I know a lot about. Sorry.
I have a mac will this work?
Sweet, count me on board.
Congatulations Charles! I'm really pleased that I backed this project. Hope you manage to extend the game further if possible with the extra funding and thanks for the update. I'm looking forward to seeing a snippet of the game before release :D
Congrats, now give yourself a celebratory cookie and get back to work >:D
Congratulations on breaking $10k!!
A bit of help from Newburgh coming at ya.
Helped that unemployment is sky-high here :P
If for some odd reason (unlikely) you have trouble selling your extra copies at a later date just mention all 1130+ of us who believed in you before we actually had a physical copy in hand.
NICE!!! 1020% so far and 4 more hours to grow. Thank you Charles DeYoe, congratulations!!!
I still can't believe this has gotten as big as it has!
Huge thanks to all!
it was me...and it was exactly 5$ to get a copy of the Game ;)
Exactly $10k :D Someone probably pledged a specific amount just to make that happen, heh :)
1070 backers and still 24 hours to go!? I'm happy for you :) also, that DS game is a great way to compose your music for cheap and call it your own (with mention of the software of course). I never heard of that game before but because of you, I want it so I can have my own non-copyright songs for a future YouTube channel. Ahh, ideas are so infectious. You are a truly brilliant man sir!
Nice to see this project will most likely go beyond 1000% funded :) Congrats!
Oh, and one last question and I'll stop hogging the comment board: Since it will be on Windows, are you designing it to be played mainly through the keyboard and mouse (i.e. WASD movement controls) or will there be controller support so that it will be playable like the old school console rpgs?
er, I'd like to SEE more of the same.
No problem! You just seem like a smart guy who will most likely make a smart, funny, fun game, so naturally, I'd like to more of the same. Cheers!
Thanks for all the support! I can't believe how big this has gotten!
Jason: I'm not going to add any reward tiers, but your previous comment has given me a really good idea. I'm not making any promises because I don't know if I will actually go through with it, but I now have an idea for a potential freeware prequel. Thanks for the suggestion!
Simply amazing! Congratulations Charles! over 900% of what you wanted to bring in for your very bright light bulb of an idea! Yay, I can't wait for my copy!
Last day new pledge amount of say $250 to actually be a character in the game perhaps? =)
The moment I saw your video I wanted to be a backer. This video/game definitely speaks to me, having had to overcome unexpected employment-related challenges in my own experiences. I'm excited. Congratulations on surpassing your goal!
I was thinking a stretch goal would be just to make the game longer or have more side-quests and the like, not just better art/sound. Of course, that would push your deadline back Mr. DeYoe, but it could, like you mentioned, come in the form of a patch or a free "expansion pack" funded by the extra money gained on Kickstarter. How does that sound?
i did some looking around and it looks like its a little difficult to get stuff published on Steam just for the fact that there a larger business and don't release what criteria they have for acceptance
911 backers, lol nice
I donated 1 dollar because i know how much it sucks to be unemployed. If I had been an RPG-gamer i would have pledged more.
I'm not going to change the project at the moment. I want to concentrate on releasing the best game I can while sticking to the deadline I've set for myself.
But now that the game seems to be so successful, I'm toying with the idea of releasing a free upgrade-patch in the future. So it would be replacing the art or a soundtrack made with a real synthesizer or something. But these are just rough concepts at the moment and I'm so busy working on tweaking/finalizing the game that I can't announce anything solid. (I was not planning on the Kickstarter getting so high, so I didn't think any stretch goals would be necessary,)
My catch is that I like the fact that I'm the only guy working on this game (beyond playtesting, which has proven to be a huge help). So for now, I'm concerned with releasing the best possible game I can. I'm not holding any features hostage - if I can possibly do it, I'm doing it!
The one Kickstarter-money based extra thing I'm planning on doing is actually being able to ADVERTISE. But that's not too exciting.
AND LET ME CONTINUE TO THANK EVERYONE FOR THE SUPPORT! My brain is still not used to this level of success but it means a lot to get this kind of support from so many people!
And on a side note, I'm hoping to have a trailer showing off the first segment of the game sometime soon... I'll post an update when that happens!
this is just absolutely hilarious. Congrats - you are a crazy genius!
You're now at $7500 in pledges... will there be any change to the project given your new budget?
Being well familiar with your situation "no, I plan to use it to buy food that's not wrapped in plastic and to not be called by my landlord or bank for an entire month." is perfectly acceptable.
Hey, fellow graduate-man here. I only got my part-time job in retail (after nine months of searching) because my old school friend was a supervisor at the store. I see nothing wrong with tossing some of my meager earnings towards this.
I am not a gamer, but this such a cool idea I want my name in the game.... BONUS!!!!
This looks so adorable. XD Also, it reminds me of Hikikomori RPG, and I loved the heck out of that game.
My current plan for including peoples' names is to have books like "My Awesome Life, A Memoir by *YOUR NAME HERE*" or "On the Art of Generosity by *YOUR NAME HERE*"
However once the Kickstarter has ended, I'll contact everyone who has pledged at that level and get whatever they want. If you want just your name without a title or a title that's some sort of personal in-joke, as long as it's not offensive I'm cool with it!
Will our names in the library be authors of books?? How involved will the names be? I was only $25 away from that pledge so I bumped it up to that lvl.
@ Brian, Hmmm, something to look into.
Wow, unemploymentquest.com wasn't already taken? Way to go DeYoE!
Also. I admire your entrepreneurial spirit. Screw looking for a job when you can make your own work and have fun doing it. Congrats on the outstanding funding.
@ Matthew, there are ways you could still play this even on your Mac (ie. partition part of it as Windows operating system, or other programs that make a fake Windows rom on your computer) http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Is_there_any_way_to_play_PC_games_on_Mac_computers
I feel this will be the most epic non-epic game I will own. Fantastic Idea!
Often I wont donate to someone who has meet there goal so evenhandedly, but in your case it was personal.
I too was unemployed for a period of a year when the Dot-com fiasco occurred ages ago.
Anyone unemployed that long knows its a little slice of hell.
Fresh out of tech school I herd it all, "you're lazy" or "you're unmotivated" and a number of other "reasons" for why I wasn't able to get a job in a flooded burst market.
It wasn't until some time later that I was finally able to pay off my folks and get back on my feet and I wish for you to be back on your ASAP.
I hope this project serves as your life line and your therapy my friend.
