Thank you, supporters of local, original music!
The Lovely Socialite Mrs. Thomas W. Phipps is a jazz/rock/free-improv band from Madison, WI. It's taken the entire two+ years we've been with you, but having at last developed enough music of our own--rehearsed at home and refined at gigs around town--we eagerly went into the studio to make a full-length, professional recording. We've put forward virtually our entire band earnings from gigs and tips toward recording this project: won't you please help us bring this project to life?
We are an ungainly and imperfect assemblage of parts--cello, trombone, vibraphone, pipa 琵琶 (Chinese lute), among others--but the there's something original, perhaps something that none of us expected, about what the group is doing as a body. The music has sides that are artistic and a goofy, groovy and experimental, highbrow and fun. Contradictions perhaps, but this thing has learned to walk and moves now with a capable stride.
This January we spent just over nine hours in Madison's Blast House Studios to record ten tracks. This part is paid for, and it sounds good, but we could use help to make it ready to appear in polite society. We ask for your help to pay for the mixing, the digital "mastering" process that makes the songs ready for CD, and the physical printing of the discs and cases. We would also like to reimburse local artists for their work on the CD packaging.
By participating in this project, you will receive a copy of this new album in either digital or CD format. This is the way we would really like to reward you for your help. We are genuinely pleased with the recordings and can't wait to share them with you.
Thank you to you for participating. Thanks to everyone who has come to shows, downloaded our music, and watched us on video. Thanks to the venues that have welcomed us. Thank you for helping this album grow up!
