See Me in the Wonder began as a way to teach our children about having a loved one who has died. Our first daughter passed away when she was three, and although our other two children had never met their sister, I wanted them to know that she will aways be a part of our lives. I wanted them to understand why we think of their sister when we see a butterfly, blossoms in the spring, or a beautiful sunrise. What resulted from this is a lovingly crafted picture book, which I believe has the ability to bring comfort and inspiration to readers of all ages.
See Me in the Wonder will be a 24-page, full color, 10 x 10 hardcover book. The simple, rhyming text follows the idea that the loved ones we’ve lost are always with us, and can be found in the beauty that is all around us.
The watercolor illustrations are meant to capture the sense of wonder and connectedness that we can feel when we stop and really take in the beauty of our natural world. They also attempt to serve as a reminder that all life is change, and as one thing is ending another is beginning. In my experience, this reminder of the nature of change and that all things are connected can bring a welcome sense of understanding and peace to the grieving process.
My partner in this project is my husband, Robert Fraher. He has completed the book design and will be preparing the layouts to send to the printer. We are both eager for the opportunity to allow what we have learned through our own experiences to help others who are dealing with loss. Our hope is for See Me in the Wonder to be shared with a child who has questions about death, given to a friend who is grieving, or read in the quiet moments to remember those who will always be alive in our hearts.
The text and illustrations have all been completed, and See Me in the Wonder is finally ready to be printed. This is where you come in! The funds we raise through Kickstarter will primarily be used to cover the cost of printing the book. A smaller portion of the funds will be used for producing and shipping rewards, and to pay Kickstarter’s fees.
We have included the illustrations that are available as print rewards on this page, in addition to some sample page spreads. If you would like to preview the entire book, please visit our website at: seemeinthewonder.com
We really appreciate you taking the time to check out our page, and hope that you will consider supporting our project. We would also like to ask for your help in sharing this campaign with others. The more people we reach, the better chance we have of meeting our goal and getting this book printed and out into the world. Thank you!
Risks and challenges
The illustrations, text and layout for the book are all complete. We have researched and found a printer that we are excited to work with, and printing is scheduled to begin soon after the close of this campaign. As such, we don’t foresee any risks with getting our book produced and into your hands.
We are well aware that fulfilling rewards will be a time-consuming venture. We are prepared for the challenge of fitting this into our already busy life, as it will truly be a labor of love!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
