after living fifty years as a man in N.J a two story iron working fall convinced me that life is just too precarious to live a lie.
My name is Morgan. I'm a stand up comedian and storyteller from San Francisco, who just happens to be transgender. The ultimate goal of my work is to promote acceptance and tolerance for transgendered people, while making audiences laugh! Let me tell you, this trip between two genders has been wild, and my emotionally charged stories reflect this. The anecdotes that I share are all true things that made me the woman I am today: From asking my mother as a little boy, "when do I get to carry the purse?", to my two-story fall as a union iron worker nine years ago, to breaking the news to my wife of twenty years that she was in a lesbian relationship - despite the fact that I appeared male to the untrained eye. With your support I'll hire a film crew who will document me and my adventures as they follow me on a storytelling tour I'll be doing this Spring. The tour will take me from my home in San Francisco to New York City, Austin Tx., Los Angeles, Vallejo, and then back to San Francisco for the National Queer Arts Festival! We'll be filming during the traveling, the downtime and, of course, my performances at the shows. The tour and film will eventually become the building blocks of my one woman show "Girl Junk."
With your help, I can get my message out to more people then I would ever be able to at individual venues! I was once referred to in an editorial as a "transgendered superhero & stand-up storyteller." (I've always felt that was a bit of a reach to say the least. After all, I've never been able to pull off a cape, even on my best day!) However, whatever you do call me, I'm certainly very up front and out loud about my truth. That truth being I've changed my gender from male to female, not only because it was the right thing to do, but because it was the only thing to do. Every time I get on stage I'm defiantly visible, funny, and unapologetic about who I am. And I hope it helps clear a path for those that follow, and for those that question. All kinds of people enjoy the stories of my journey, which promote acceptance and tolerance- things that are needed in these times, and I'm just the woman to get those tales out! Donated funds are needed for: Car rentals, Air fare, Accommodations, Camera and related equipment rentals, Editing the footage, All the miscellaneous costs that go into putting on a tour and documenting it.
