Alright! I'll do it. I'll make a CD. But you gotta help!
Many of you have been asking why I haven't made a CD. Well, it's not for lack of wanting to do it. And actually, last spring I took some steps to start. I shopped around and found a great studio and a fantastic producer/engineer (Tom Eaton ... check him out here - Thomas Eaton Recording). We picked out the set of songs, started mapping out the production for each, thought about adding a fiddle here, a bass there, an accordion behind that, maybe a banjo over there. We even started thinking about who the musicians might be that we would add ... and as we added (in our minds and on paper) the cost started adding as well! Turns out it takes quite a bit of cash to make a CD.
You actually have to PAY musicians. Huh, who knew? And then there's all that time in the studio to record, mix, and master ... that ain't cheap at about $60 an hour ... (actually that's very reasonable for this area and the quality of studio!!!!). But wait ... there's more ... someone needs to create that cool CD cover with the great graphics. And then we need to create several hundred copies and package them up with the cool cover art. And all along the line, people have their hand out and want money to do that stuff. Imagine!
Reality Sets In
So here's the deal ... I'm scaling down my initial vision of the project (maybe I don't need that accordion or that banjo, maybe that Willy Nelson duet is a little beyond my means) ... and I'm asking for your help. I'm hoping that maybe you'll buy my CD today ... before it's made ... If you do then I'll actually be able to record this thing without spending my son Eli's college savings. You wouldn't want that hanging over your head, now would you? So do it for the kid!
What You Can Do
Here's how it works. I'm setting a goal to raise $4000* by New Years Eve. You donate to the project by selecting a particular level of funding over there on the right side of your screen. You can donate as little as $1 or as much as $1000. Apart from the warm fuzzy feeling you'll get by supporting this project, you'll get various rewards! So check them out over there. The only catch is that if I don't reach the goal of $4000 by the stroke of midnight on New Years Eve, then I don't get squat ... nadda ... nothing! Nobody's card gets charged and we all go our separate ways like nothing happened. But ... if miracle upon miracle, we DO reach $4000, then yahoo yippity ... I'm off to the studio and you're set to receive your wonderful rewards - including that CD!
All of the credit card transactions are handled through Amazon Payments - with the same security and reliability as if you were purchasing something on Amazon.com. In fact if you have an account with Amazon already the process will be very quick for you.
I'd really love it if you could help out in any way that you can. Even if you can't contribute at this time, please consider passing this along to someone you know who might be interested. Thanks for your time and for checking out my project.
By the way, if you're not familiar with my music, you can check some of it out at ReverbNation. See ya down the road!
*This won't cover the cost of the entire project, but will get me to a level of funding where I can manage contributing to the rest of the project without jeopardizing my family.
