Mech Defense is a cooperative, tower defense inspired, legacy board game for 2 to 4 players. It features dozens of legacy components, enabling players to permanently alter the game with every explosive they set off, enemy they kill, or upgrade they choose.
As a member of the Crimson Fist mercenary squad, you were ordered to defend the only supply bridge to the capital city of Kelmova. Each player picks one of the pre-configured training Mechs and hot drops onto the battlefield right as the first wave of enemies approach.
During each mission, your squad will collaborate to annihilate all the enemies before they reach the bridge and deal enough damage to destroy it. You are the only ones that stand in their way.
After each mission, Kelmova will pay you bounties for each enemy destroyed that you will use to purchase and upgrade your Mechs.
Every copy of Mech Defense will ship with at least 4 unique miniatures designed by James Van Schaik. Below is series of pictures of the Leopard Mech Miniature.
Our stretch goals include production of up to 14 unique miniatures for each copy of the game.
The game includes 12 different Mech Chassis with art by David White.
David A. White aka Mecha Zone is an illustrator, toy designer, and publisher who specializes in designing giant robots. David has contributed concept art to more than 15 video games including Microsoft’s MechWarrior 4 franchise.
Mech Defense include 12 different enemy units + 2 Bosses, all designed by David White.
Backers are encouraged to look at our updates for details on the enemies and to help us give them some awesome names.

This is an alpha build of our application. It contains many known issues including some crashing issues. It is also lacking any Save/Load support. We expect to have the Windows Application finished by end of October with the Android, iOS, and Windows Phone versions following shortly after.
*** NOTE - When you download this file, it may give you a warning that it has not been downloaded or used much. This is expected until enough users have downloaded it. The Mech Defense Support Application has been virus scanned by multiple scanners to try and ensure safety.
We plan to open source all versions of the application using GitHub. After we do, we encourage people to build upon our game by adding their own expansions, new units, and other content.
The current build of the support app only contains the first 5 missions. If you would like to view how the rest of the missions and math work, please feel free to download a copy of this Excel File.
This is the latest draft of our rules. Its still needs updated artwork and some layout fixes, but it should give you a great idea of how our game rules work.
For all of our Injection Molded figures unlocked as part of our Stretch Goals, we have partnered with James Van Schaik to produce the figures.
James Van Schaik has over 20 years experience as a professional miniature sculptor. He has worked as a freelance sculptor, in-house staff sculptor and on several exclusivity contracts for a range of companies including Megacon Games, Ninja Division, Soda Pop Miniatures, Ral Partha, WizKids, Wyrd, Games Workshop, Pulp City, Battlefront, Gale Force 9, Dust Tactics, Mantic, Reaper, Gloomhaven, and Lynnvander.
James is a veteran sculptor in the gaming industry and has sculpted miniatures for many mech based games including Battletech, Heavy Gear, Mechwarrior Dark Age, Halo Clix, and CAV. He has also sculpted for toy companies outside of the gaming industry and produced figures for licensed properties such as Lord of the Rings, Dr. Who, Marvel, DC, and Harry Potter to name a few. A single copy of Mech Defense weighs an estimated 13.2lbs (6kg). For shipping our initial batch of Mech Defense, we are partnering with Ship Naked to reduce Customs costs and enable low-cost worldwide shipping. VAT Tax is not included.
For all backers, we are covering $18 of the expected shipping costs.
Risks and challenges
This is our first game, but we have spent the last year preparing for this launch. Mech Defense is a complete and thoroughly tested game. All backer created or modified content will either not impact the game directly or will be balanced accordingly to fit into the game.
We have an agreement with a manufacturer, Liya International, who is known for producing games for AEG and Greater than Games. We have received a complete estimate for the game, down to the penny, for each copy's cost including the custom legacy components. We have also worked out timelines for producing white copies for review, iteration, tooling, manufacture, shipping, and US customs processing. We have worked hard to lock in both the quality and the timelines for production and shipping, but there is always the possibility of unexpected interruptions, including natural events or socio-economic events that are outside our control or our manufacturer's control that could disrupt even the best plans.
We have accounted for taxes and other fees associated with producing a product through Kickstarter.
We have planned for nearly all worst case scenarios for shipping in our funding goals. To help alleviate issues with shipping and customs, we have partnered with Hit Point Sales and Naked Shipping to manage our distribution to both backers and retailers.
The biggest risk we face is if we have extremely high levels of success and need to produce all of the 3D injection molded figures. We have hired a highly experienced modeler who has produced figures for dozens of projects. Our estimated time for full production of all 14 is 8 weeks. This should not impact manufacturing even if we have to wait to start until after we receive the Kickstarter funding.
If we are unable to complete design and manufacture of all the injection molded figures by the time the core game is complete and ready to ship, we will ship them separately to all backers at a later date and bundle them with future production runs of the game. At a minimum, if we obtain the stretch goals, all copies will include the 1 injection molded figure in 4 colors as that model will be complete by end of October at the latest.
Finally, less than 5% of the game's art is not yet complete. The art is scheduled to be complete at least a month before we would complete review of white copies. If our main artist were hit by a bus before the art is complete, we already have all the sketches for the remaining components and will do our best to hire a competent artist to finalize the components with enough time to avoid manufacturing delays.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
