BETA: Upgrades and Details

The moment is nigh!

Wednesday, June 25, 2014, we will launch the WARMACHINE: Tactics Beta for all Kickstarter Backers who pledged at a reward level that included Beta Access.

If you are a Beta Backer, you will receive your STEAM code to download the WARMACHINE: Tactics Beta via the email address associated with your Backerkit account, after 9am PST on Wednesday, June 25, 2014. If you have not received your code by 12pm PST on Thursday, June 26, 2014, please contact:

By popular demand, we will be re-opening the Backerkit pledge manager to allow Backers who did not originally pledge at a reward level including Beta access the opportunity to upgrade to a level that grants access to the Beta.

Eligible Backers will soon be receiving an email from Backerkit, allowing them to Add On Beta access.

To keep things fair for those who pledged during the Kickstarter, the amount Backers will have to pledge in order to Add On Beta access will vary, depending on the reward level the Backer originally pledged at. Beta was originally offered at the $65 VANGUARD reward level and above, so most Backers will simply have to pledge the difference between the reward level they originally backed at and VANGUARD.

Example: If you backed at the $35 COMMANDER level, then your Add On will be $30, bringing your reward level to VANGUARD.

In addition to Beta access, you will also receive the following digital rewards associated with the VANGUARD level, including:

Gold Warjack Skins Digital Game Manual, Digital Strategy Guide, Alternate Company Skins, Extreme Warjacks, Digital Art Book, Early Access to Commander Sturgis and the mp3 Game Soundtrack

IMPORTANT: The one exception to the information above is for Backers who pledged at the $40 DEADEYE level. Because this reward level included a physical reward (Limited Edition Sculpt at a $20 value), DEADEYE backers will have to upgrade to the $85 HARDCORE level (a $45 difference) in order to obtain Beta access. This is the equivalent of the VANGUARD level plus an LE sculpt Add On and is being handled this way in order to protect the pledges of Backers who pledged for an All Digital reward level and Added On physical rewards. The value being pledged for Beta access is the same.

NOTE: No physical rewards are associated with the pledge upgrades for Beta Access. Additional copies of the game may not be pledged for at this time, however, if you Added On additional copies previously, ALL copies will be upgraded to Beta access if you upgrade your pledge now.

VERY IMPORTANT: Due to the nature of the pledge management software, we must collect pledges and send out Beta codes manually. Through the end of this week, we will collect pledge upgrades at the end of the day and WhiteMoon Dreams will send out the Beta codes within 24 hours, so expect a delay of up to one day between the time you upgrade your pledge and when you receive your code. After this week, pledges will be collected on Thursdays and codes will be sent on the following Friday of the same week, so future delays to receive the Beta upgrade could be up to a week.

WhiteMoon Dreams will host an online Beta Forums to collect feedback and offer technical support with the Beta over the next two to three months. Your password to the locked forum will be sent with your STEAM Key. The forums can be found at:

The WARMACHINE: Tactics Beta will launch with one multiplayer map featuring a fixed squad build for the Cygnar and Khador factions. By keeping the content focused, we will be able to more quickly evaluate any issues in this early phase of the Beta and reach a level of stability faster.

Updates addressing bugs will occur throughout the week, and our goal is to release a major update once each week that will increase the content and options available to you in the game. Such content updates will be subject to the game’s performance and stability.

Pending the stability of the game, Beta will be opened to the public through STEAM in early-to-mid July. We will be offering some great incentives to purchase the game during this early Beta phase. Please spread the word to your friends who may not have participated in the Kickstarter. The more people we have playing, the faster you’ll find games in matchmaking and the more data we can collect during the Beta, helping us to polish and perfect the WARMACHINE: Tactics experience.

Thank you for your ongoing support and encouragement through the development of WARMACHINE: Tactics. We are thrilled to reach this milestone and deliver into your hands the product of this past year of hard work. We can’t wait to be playing WARMACHINE: Tactics with you.

With exuberant gratitude,

I purchased 5 copies for me and friends and I only received 4 codes. Does it means that these codes are just for the beta access and I will receive the missing code when the game is out?

    3. Dunrick on June 26, 2014

Not received my code... very disappointed after I increased my pledge recently to get on the Beta I do not get my activation code. It seems everyone else has already received theirs already. Is there an issue with backers who recently upped their pledge?

Looks like with the new requirements I'm outa luck. I went ahead and loaded it to see what happens on my Corei3... and it lasts about 30 seconds.

Augh, the waiting is torturing me, but I'm being patient XD. I got so excited thinking it was yesterday before I realized that it was a PST time. Now I'm sitting here refreshing my inbox waiting for the email :P

Thanks @Brandon - that clarified it for me. For others, I can confirm that you need to click the second radio button that says INCOMPLETE to let you look at your new addon options.

Also, thanks to Backerkit support for confirming this as well.

    7. Brandon Atkinson on June 25, 2014

For those like me who had issues modifying their pledge, there is a check box that had 2 options, the first one being your original pledge that says completed under it, the other one is the one you click on to add the updated amount to your existing pledge, in my case I went from Commander $35 to the Vanguard $65 by adding $30...

    8. Matthew Marhefki on June 25, 2014

I can't afford to add on $45 for beta access - when the game moves to Open Beta will I be able to access it through my regular copy, or will I miss that as well?

    9. Privateer Press Interactive Creator on June 25, 2014

@Dave — The core game ships with Cygnar, Khador, Protectorate and Cryx. Everything else that are part of the Kickstarter stretch goals will roll out over the months following the release of the full game at the end of August. Retribution was among the last of the stretch goals, and as such, it's the latest phase of our development. We'll be seeing them show up around the end of the year. So, you'll have time to learn the ways of your enemies first! (I know, that's small consolation when you have to wait.)

so i assume then that this game has no compatibility with XP :( i guess i need to accelerate my plans to get a new laptop

      Pryokon on June 25, 2014

@Dave - Someone official can comment on this, but I'm sure that Retribution is still in the development phase. They won't be ready in time for the beta. It's just going to be certain Khador and Cygnar models initially, with the priorities being these two, then Menoth and Cryx, then Mercs, then Ret. They're in the pipe, but I don't foresee any elves in beta.

@Chris, @Richard, @Earl — if you have received the email from Backerkit but cannot access your account, please contact:

They should be able to sort that out for you. I will also follow up on this side to see why some backers are unable to access their account. Apologies for this inconvenience.

Okay, help me out here; I'm not seeing where to increase a pledge. Kickstarter noob; sry. :p

    23. Jay Koottarappallil on June 24, 2014

@John Long - the one key should get you access on any platform you have Steam installed on. Keep in mind, our Mac stuff is pretty early on :) And please send us your feedback at or post to our forums when you get the code!

    24. John Long on June 24, 2014

      @ Jay Koottarappallil

I have a couple older macbooks/pros that I would be happy to test on. Will let you know how it goes for both a Windows and Mac test. Will the beta key work on both platforms?? If not, what do we need to do to get access for both for testing?

    25. Jay Koottarappallil on June 24, 2014

@Robert - These specs are what we have currently tested with, and as development continues, we hope to bring them down. The specs we listed in your comment were what we were targeting before we brought the game to the level of completion that it's at right now. Can you possibly send your laptop specs to so we can dig into it further? Also, for each copy you pledged for, you'll get a key to do with as you wish!

      @Jay - Windows 8 32 bit

    27. Robert Harvey on June 24, 2014

Are the requirements elevated due to the beta being pre-optimization passes? I am a little surprised about the 64 bit and quad core as this jumps out ahead of most games nowadays. I need to double check, but my gaming laptop may not meet the requirements which would be a let down as the intention for two copies was to play against my boy using the desktop and the laptop.

      The original KS FAQ states:

      Our current target specs are:

      • Windows XP SP3 (32-bit) or Mac OSX 10.6.8
      • 2.0+ GHz processor
      • 2 GB system RAM
      • A graphics card with shader model 3.0 support
Last updated: Fri, Jul 12 2013 11:35 AM PDT

Actually concerning beta and multiple copies, will the key given just generate a gift copy or will we be given multiple keys that we can register on each machine. Or is the beta for single machine only?

No matter the case... my ice axe is ready!

    28. Privateer Press Interactive Creator on June 24, 2014

@Chris — 'Add Ons' during the Kickstarter campaign (such as the LE sculpts) do not change your reward level, os if you backed at the Deadeye level, you don't have Beta Access. You would have to upgrade for $45, and then you would have Beta AND you'd totally have the gold jacks!

    29. Privateer Press Interactive Creator on June 24, 2014

@aiho — You will receive an email from Backerkit instructing you to login to your backerkit account to Add On the Beta upgrade. Make sure your spam filters are set to receive email from

I'm iffy on if I have beta access; I pledged $40 but got a $45 add-on for a total of $85. Beta access seems to happen at $65, but I don't know if you count the add-on for that. Am I in or out? (and if I'm in, do I also get golden jacks?! O_O) ?

hi there, i really would like to upgrade to beta access, but i can't find any option to do so. Sooooo how do I do that? I kinda feel dumb right now, so some help would be highly appreciated! thanks!

    32. Don Peebles on June 24, 2014

Minimum system requirement: Win 7/8. And no Linux version. *sigh* Another game I won't be playing...

    33. Privateer Press Interactive Creator on June 24, 2014

@CrispyPete — if you don't want to upgrade, then there's nothing you need to do with Backerkit. Just ignore the messages.

    34. CrispyPete on June 24, 2014

Is it correct that if I don't want to upgrade my pledge I don't have to resubmit the backer kit?

    35. Joseph Serrani on June 24, 2014

Thanks for the quick response. Much obliged.

    37. Jay Koottarappallil on June 24, 2014

@ Martin Nicolas - KS-exclusive stuff is KS exclusive! Bask in the glory of being a believer!

    38. Privateer Press Interactive Creator on June 24, 2014

@Joseph — Upgrading your pledge once will give you Beta access to all copies that you pledged for. You'll receive an email from Backerkit directing you to your account where you can login and upgrade.

    39. Martin Nicolas on June 24, 2014

Will those multiplayer solid GOLD WARJACK skins stay Kickstarter-exclusive (incl. Backerkit upgraded versions)?
Just worrying a little reading "We will be offering some great incentives to purchase the game during this early Beta phase."

    40. Brandon Atkinson on June 24, 2014

I have upgraded my pledge with the Commander to Vanguard addon... took me a while to figure it out.. looking forward to seeing some playable WM Tactics!

    41. Jay Koottarappallil on June 24, 2014

@John Long - Since we're still in development for the game, we're still figuring out how low we can go. If you can get it working on dual core, please let us know as we haven't tested with that yet. And, thanks for pointing out the typo!

    42. Brandon Atkinson on June 24, 2014

Where would I go to update my pledge to beta level? The email I received after this update concerning the survey wont let me as the backerkit page has my info and stuff locked.

    43. Joseph Serrani on June 24, 2014

I got the deadeye bundle, and want to upgrade. Though I also purchased two copies of the game. Will one upgrade apply to both copies? And where/how can I get to the pledge manager again? Thanks guys and gals, looking forward to playing.

    44. Jay Koottarappallil on June 24, 2014

@Craig Parent - Can you tell us what OS you're using?

    45. Jay Koottarappallil on June 24, 2014

@Bigsixer - sorry - processor. What processor are you running?

    46. Jay Koottarappallil on June 24, 2014

@Bigsixer - What OS are you running? If you'd like, you can also email us at

    47. Privateer Press Interactive Creator on June 24, 2014

@Jetspike — If you did not pledge for Beta and do not upgrade your pledge for Beta access, then you will be able to play the game when we do the full release, which will include the campaign, etc. The Open Beta is a paid public beta where non-backers can buy the game prior to the full release version.

    48. Privateer Press Interactive Creator on June 24, 2014

Typos under the specs have been fixed. Think of the original update as a 'Beta' update…

    49. John Long on June 24, 2014

It's surprising the processor min is a quad core, making most laptop users unable to play. Also the video min being a paltry 1mb means that most video cards from 10 years ago would suffice. I assume that's a typo and 1gb video is min. Hope that dual core machines are allowed though.
