Welcome to the Club
If you've never worn a bow tie before, hold onto your seat, because we've got news for you: life doesn't have to be comprised of wearing thrift shop neckwear and John Wayne-inspired bolo ties. That's why we created Lion's Thread. When it comes to our products, Lion's Thread prides (Ha! Get it? Prides?) itself on two features:
1. Employing only the finest Ugandan craftswomen and raw materials to manufacture our ties
2. Making you look incredibly dashing
It's a tall task, we know. That's why we use superlative, just-short-of-indestructible African cotton. You might argue that it's impossible to revamp an item of apparel that's been embellishing necks since the 17th Century, but we've managed it. Our ties are manufactured by some of the most dedicated, hardest-working women in East Africa, and said artisans only thought to ask what a bow tie was after flawlessly sewing their first.
It's okay to be impressed.
Here at Lion's Thread, we make bold ties for a bold audience, and we help out our local community in Uganda simultaneously. Our tagline is "look good, do good," and we mean it. If you're after a bow tie that will revive, refresh, and resuscitate your look and you have a heart for making a difference, search no further. We can help.

What we Need
Our bow ties require fine, African cotton and a skilled hand. In order to grow our product offerings, establish distribution channels, and ultimately deliver more ties, we need more material and more helping hands. Achieving our goal will allow us to hire three more talented women, as well as purchase the material we need to put bow ties in a number of different locations across the U.S. In addition, we will be able to supply inventory for our ready-to-launch online store. Ready to see Lion's Thread take the bow tie market by storm? So are we.
Meet the Team
**Send us a message with what tie you would like to purchase, so we can ensure you receive your first choice.
Since we source all of our fabrics from the Kampala markets in Uganda, each tie exists in a limited quality. At any given time, a bow tie in a certain pattern may be gone, so buy them while you can. We will do our best to get you your first pick. However, the sooner you order, the more likely you are to get the bow tie that you want.
We hope that you will embrace the uniqueness of every tie and see the narratives waiting to be told in their African roots.
Risks and challenges
Here at Lion's Thread, we have a dedicated team of talented and extremely hard-working individuals whose first priority is delivering a high-quality product to your doorstep. With team members located stateside, as well as on the ground in Uganda, we feel confidently positioned to tackle any obstacle we may face. Although the demands of a larger-scale production will naturally come with challenges, we believe in our seamstresses and our plan for product expansion.
One of the biggest challenges we face is expanding too quickly. Here at Lion's Thread, we want to make sure that we never go over our capacity in a way that would compromise the integrity of our mission. We will always put the women first.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
