When 'Murmuration' became a worldwide viral hit we weren't at all ready for the attention it brought to us.
Like any band, we spent years trying to realise our sound, after years of trying to 'make-it' we instead decided to focus on creating music for 'music's sake'. We created a song in 7/8 which then became to be known as 'Murmuration', and since then really we knew we're sitting on something incredible.
This is the first recording we have of it. Recorded from an iphone (listen out for 2:10!)
We began to send our hour long jams to our friends all around the country and started to receive really encouraging feedback, especially with 7/8. It made us feel like sharing the music more and so we started plans for creating a collective.
Then came the opportunity to write a soundtrack for a short film ‘Murmuration’ created by two directors Sophie Windsor Clive & Liberty Smith. They happened to fall in love with 7/8 too and within a week of been given the offer we were forced into the studio to lay it down. Everyone was very happy with the final product but nobody had an idea that eventually it would reach 10million views on vimeo, and be shown on the news all around the world.
We've received hundreds of requests for more and more music, and so we started writing an album for a collective. We've recently collaborated with Yemi Bolatiwa a fantastic vocalist and we've also brought on horn players - see our blog for more info.
Our hope is to create a 20min experience of 4 wonderful tracks, which seamlessly blend into each other taking the listener on a unique emotional experience. Including music written around the time of Murmuration and more up to date tracks with highs and lows and plenty of crunching solos in-between, we feel this EP is perfect way to document our sound in 2012.
Our sound takes massive influence from UK artists Cinematic Orchestra, Bonobo, whilst also admiring US music from the likes of composer Miguel Atwood Ferguson and the 'Suite for ma Dukes orchestra' and the Robert Glasper Trio & his experiment.

This money will help us cover the costs of recording, we’ve been saving up for a while but we’re just a little short and so we’re reaching out for help.
Risks and challenges
Writing any EP or album is a massive challenge, we're working with top class engineers and producers to make sure we document the tracks with all the integrity they deserve, they're also friends of the band and respect our music so this should show in the detail. If we run over schedule we potentially might have to pay for more studio time. The studio team are pretty certain that this won't be needed.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
