About this project
My name is Marshall McLean, I'm a singer/songwriter based in Spokane, Washington where I live with my wonderful wife and son and have so many amazing friends. I've been playing music around the Northwest for awhile and I've had the opportunity to play with a lot of great people in a lot of cool places over the years. Let me tell you briefly about my musical journey for those who don't know me personally.
In 2006 I was the Gibson Acoustic New Artist of the Year and spent close to four years working on a record that due to the complexities of life and the music business, was never released. After investing so much expectation and work into that project, I felt like I needed to channel my energies elsewhere and stopped playing music under my own name.
In 2009 I began to form a band called The Horse Thieves, in which we went on to make two albums, 'The Valley of Decision', and 'Outlaw Ballads', both of which I'm extremely proud of and still excited about to this day. We had a great time as a band making music and some of my best memories are from that project. However, as bands often do, we found that we needed to stop making music together for awhile in order to pursue other things. As a songwriter and musician, I found it impossible to not write songs, and of course I was writing all the way through that transition of putting the brakes on one thing and figuring out a new beginning for another. After some time off from performing and actively pursuing music, I am back at the place where I wanted to be at the beginning of this whole journey. I'm happy to share my songs with people, songs shaped by my own experiences, rooted in joy and trouble, beauty and pain, my shared stories under my own name.
This latest project that i'm working on, feels like coming back to something, a prodigal record perhaps. I feel like i'm coming back to songwriting as a joy and necessity and inviting others to be apart of it.
So here are the details about this new project that i'm calling, 'Glossolalia'.
I'm working with one of my best friends and favorite musicians, Caleb Ingersoll. Caleb is the drummer in the band Cathedral Pearls (www.cathedralpearls.com) and is a fantastic producer and engineer. He is playing drums for my live shows and tracking on the record as well. I love his production style and have never worked better with anyone in the studio setting as I have with him.
We are already hard at work on this record and approaching completion as I write this, your financial support of this album will simply move it out of the studio and into your hands.
As a fully independent artist wanting to get this album out, I must raise the funds without the help of a label. We've been able to keep costs at a minimun, but the magic number is still $4,000. Here is the breakdown.
$1,000=production and studio usage
$1,500= CD replication
If I can raise more than enough funds for this record, I will put that money towards funding a tour and hiring a publicist in order to reach more people with this release.
If I raise a significant amount more, that money will go towards pressing a vinyl release of 'Glossolalia' down the road.
I've already been overwhelmed with the support I've received from so many people who have heard about this project. I've taken my time over the last year waiting for the right people to work with and for the songs to be right. I feel like that time is now and I want to thank you in advance for your role in this project, whether its financial or simply being a fan.
Risks and challenges
I see no reason why there will be any trouble getting this record out once funded! Should any setbacks occur with the incentives, I will be in touch over email and make sure to keep in close contact about specific questions via email, firstname.lastname@example.org.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
