Wrestling with Disaster: The Movie
WwD displays the lives of wrestlers both of new and former glory who have overcome tragedies involved either in or out of the business.
Let us tell you why this movie is so important! Below is our interview with Brian Soscia of Mix 106.1 - Philadelphia
What is Wrestling with Disaster?
Wrestling with Disaster is a documentary that will explore the inner workings of the world of professional wrestling, giving the perspective audience a unique understanding of the incredible physical and mental demands that wrestlers must meet before, during, and after entertaining their fans.
What's so tough about wrestling?
Wrestlers battle intense physical and psychological challenges and tragedies, both in and out of the industry. The documentary will pursuit the concept that no matter how extravagant the risk nor deep the challenge, an individual must strive to overcome their personal trials and tribulations in order to succeed in their own professional and intimate lives.
What's different about this wrestling documentary?
Wrestling with Disaster follows the lives of multiple wrestlers in the professional wrestling world including "unsigned", "formerly signed", and prospective stars in the making. Most of these wrestlers have dealt with some form of tragic experience either within their wrestling careers, i.e. the loss of a friend or family member, a major injury, some form of remission or a tragic experience outside of the industry that caused a serious threat to their careers and/or lives. We also receive commentary from outsiders of the wrestling community that may have had a loved one tragically effected with whom was a part of the industry at one point in their lives.
How will I better understand these challenges?
Through personal interviews, anecdotal stories, existing footage, original footage, and/or possible reenactments, the documentary will shed light on the incredible stresses effecting the bodies, lives and relationships of some of the most famous and best-loved stars. It will also recall and celebrate the many lives lost in the business and expose the real causes behind their deaths. Our film also serves to inform and warn the future/prospective professionals of what may lie ahead for them, and how they might avoid unnecessary injury and tragedy, as they strive to become a wrestling superstar.
Who's in this film? Anyone interesting?
The film is already attached to great stars of the past and present such as Warlord, Kevin Sullivan, Fred "Tugboat" Ottman, DLo Brown, "Wild" Bill Wiles, Pitbull Gary Wolf, "Headbanger Thrasher" Glen Ruth, and the brother of the infamous "Macho Man" Randy Savage, "The Genius" Lanny Poffo, Brian Heffron "The Blue Meanie", Cory Kastle, as well as family members of many deceased wrestlers. Wrestling with Disaster is being produced by Anthony Bruno, Cory Kastle and Horror Icon, Debra Lamb, and is in association with Mark Bonocore's Monstrosity Films.
All these big names, but who's Cory Kastle?
Cory is an independent wrestler with over a decade of experience, including work in WWE, CZW, the Monster Factory and much more, who has had a tragic occurrence and setback in his professional wrestling career. After suffering a grand maul seizure, an AVM in his brain, and a life threatening surgery, Cory overcame the odds and returned to the sport he loved. Cory is one of the many featured stars in this film, and a story you are sure to not want to miss!
Are there going to be more big names in the film?
ABSOLUTELY! And as this kickstarter campaign progresses, you will get to hear about a bunch more of the stars that are already involved with Wrestling with Disaster!

Risks and challenges
As you will hear in our interview on The Soscia Network via Mix 106.1 in Philadelphia which was filmed a month ago, we are seeking a very specific amount of funds in order to complete a few of our planned interviews for the project. The Kickstarter funder can be assured that their funds will be going towards traveling expenses as well as equipment needs for our upcoming shoots. Our shoots are as follows:
Interview with Matt Cappotelli - Anticipated schedule: November 16, 2013
ECW Original Party - Anticipated schedule: November 23, 2013
Tag Team Seminar (Featuring The Powers of Pain - Warlord and Barbarian and the "New Pitbulls" - Pitbull 13) - Anticipated schedule: Mid-December
Ladder Match inside a Steel Cage (Featuring Cory Kastle and Zac Conner)
With the high amount of footage and interviews that the team at Wrestling with Disaster has completed we are able to guarantee that this film is nearing it's finish line. In order to obtain it's goal of completion we are seeking funds to finish these remaining projects for the completion of our film.
We have not included the man hours it will take to complete the edit in which we will need to secure allotted time to do so. However, being as though our edit has been in the works for quite some time now we are in a position to plug-in these featurettes where we plan for them to be inserted. Completing our edit on schedule and being able to provide our film to the audience at the beginning of the new year.
The exciting part of becoming a kickstarter funder for our project is that you will be the first to see the film, as well as, will be updated privately with some of the most outstanding photos and videos from our recent shoots.
We want to keep an open dialogue with our funders, and virtually anyone who assists in the completion of this campaign will automatically become a part of the Wrestling with Disaster family. It is our mission to assure our funders that they are joining a journey that our team has had the privilege of being a part of for the last year. This is their chance to participate and be a part of a project that truly seeks to overcome the odds!
Who is Matt Cappotelli and why is he important to this film?
A former professional wrestler, last working in Ohio Valley Wrestling, which was the primary developmental territory for World Wrestling Entertainment until February 7, 2008. He had to postpone/end his career due to a malignant brain tumor, which has been fully removed. He has an overcoming story to tell! We plan to tell it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
