About this project
Hi. My name is Jake, and this is my oldest daughter Arletta. My wife and I and our two daughters live in Westport, a midtown neighborhood in Kansas City, Missouri. About three years ago, I began to dream about doing more than just living in my neighborhood. I wanted to give back and add something fresh to its already beautiful, unique, and eclectic scene. We love where we live and have a passion for our neighborhood. Not just to stay there, not just to sleep and wake there, but to fully live there – to give our creativity, passion, and love to the place where we reside, to grow roots there. About three years ago, I began to dream about being rooted here, in my place, in my neighborhood, to give new life and create new space in such an amazing city.
THIS IS WHERE IT GETS DIFFERENT:
We began to dream about providing our Westport neighborhood with a one-of-a-kind doughnut shop. Not just your normal doughnut shop, but more like a lounge with a fully stocked bar, serving hand crafted cocktails, beer, and wine in the evening and respected coffee, tea, and fresh juice in the morning. A place where our neighbors can connect and converse, and our neighborhood can grow. And not just any doughnut, but a different type of doughnut: hand-forged classics that get combined with the sweetest and most savory ingredients to make a unique one-of-a-kind doughnut.
Dream about this with me: classic varieties like yeast risen, cake, and old fashion doughnuts, along with more creative creations like, double chocolate nutella, s’more, creme brulee, and maple bacon doughnuts. Then, to step it up one more notch, what about combining doughnuts with some of our favorite foods, like a doughnut bowl with bacon and Mac n’ Cheese, pizza doughnut, or a biscuits and gravy doughnut. We have been dreaming and creating for some time now, and our dreams have led us to the Doughnut Lounge.
Kansas City feels right to start a business like the Doughnut Lounge. The city is ripe for fresh culinary energy, and the time is perfect for a different type of doughnut. The time is perfect for a different type of bar where friendship and creativity grow together. We don’t just want to serve you- we want to live with you, create with you, craft with you, converse with you. But we need you. We need our neighbors.
OUR JOURNEY & REWARDS:
We have had a great start moving into our new space and starting construction, but it has taken us longer and has been more challenging than we could have imagined. We believe in this doughnut shop. Our team is growing with incredibly gifted chefs, bartenders, baristas, servers, and managers. We have also felt your support and the love of our neighbors like never before. When we have experienced challenges, we have relied on our amazing team, and our friends and neighbors. Now, we need you. With this Kickstarter we have strived to provide amazing rewards to give you, the investor, a great return on your investment. Everything from swag, private parties, doughnuts for life, etc. Thank you for your support!
Our neighbors and folks we meet often ask how they can help. Sometimes, it’s really hard to put that into a practical answer, but now we have something to direct you toward. We are itching to launch but need some help to open the doors. We are seeking to raise $25,000 to offset inventory and personnel needs. While opening a new business has its challenges, we have been reminded again and again of the love of our Westport neighbors: we can’t pull this off without you. We need you, our neighbors, to help us make a doughnut difference in Westport.
THANK YOU !!
We would be remiss if we did not thank all of the amazing people that have supported and believed in us since day one. We would not be here without you. We believe that our story is your story too. Thanks for helping us write an adventure that is fun, exciting, and life changing. We are in this together, and we love you. And for those of you about to jump on board: come on in, this is going to be fun! Let’s doughnut different, together.
Risks and challenges
Our Kickstarter project covers most operation cost to get these doors open. Of course, we have other expenses. Everything from permits, architecture, construction, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, equipment, buildout, furnishings, etc. are being financed separately, apart from the kickstarter. A major part of the equation is an opportunity for us to share this idea from the ground up with you, our family and friends. Together, we can get these doors open.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
