We have the opportunity to open up for The Brian Setzer Orchestra: "Christmas Rocks Extravaganza" Tour. 23 shows. 23 cities.
Hi all. Welcome to the wonderful world of Totsy!
Totsy is a feisty 8 piece band based out of Los Angeles. We have been described as burlesque pop with a forties throw back sound. A month ago we were offered the opportunity of a lifetime! We've been invited to open for the Brian Setzer Orchestra, "Christmas Rocks Extravaganza Tour," a huge honor for a brand new, unsigned band. We started this Kickstarter campaign to fund our tour. Our goal: $20,000 in 30 days.
Let's do this!
THE HISTORY OF TOTSY
Co-collaborators, Brett Boyett and Beth Curry, officially kicked off Totsy only a few months ago.
We met in 2005 and started writing music together. Our creative synergy, however, was cut short when Beth landed a Broadway show and moved to the Big Apple. She took New York by storm for five years, performing in GOOD VIBRATIONS, LEGALLY BLONDE, and YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN. On the opposite coast, Brett was writing and composing in the dynamic world of LA film and TV, collaborating with a multitude of successful artists.
In 2010, Beth returned to Los Angeles, and we reunited. Our first Totsy song written was "Dope on a Rope," a catchy tune about a dirty girl and her dopey sweetheart.

The "silly-meter" was off the charts while recording this track. With whimsical wah-wah horns, vocal percussion and unique instrumentation, we started to tap into something fresh and unorthodox. The journey following "Dope on a Rope" was incredible. We kept exploring new colors and new sounds. The result was unlike anything we had experienced before. Totsy started to reverberate. From light to dark, we discovered our range of musical expression.
Here's our Tim Burton-esque track, "Little White Secrets." Click on the link below and turn down the lights. This is the darker side of Totsy.
OUR "CHANCE OF A LIFETIME"
The Totsy sound has gained unbelievable momentum, and we've been invited to go on the road with the Brian Setzer Orchestra, Christmas Rocks Extravaganza.
TOURING COSTS AN ARM AND A LEG
It does. We are responsible for our travel costs, band costs, miscellaneous expenses...everything. It's going to cost us well over $40,000 to make this tour a reality. We are fortunate Brian Setzer is one of the remaining artists who actually pays their opening acts. Other artists have been known to actually CHARGE acts to open for them. Not Brian. We are so grateful for his generosity, but we still need help. Cost include bus rental, gas, food, merchandise and much, much more. Plus, unlike some bands, we are actually paying our band members. We'll pay them as much as we can. This is an act of love for all parties involved.
SO WHAT DO YOU GET OUT OF ALL THIS?
Without your help, this tour will not happen. The music industry is a tough world to find unconditional support. And as a result, artists are turning away from record labels and turning towards their fans. With platforms like Kickstarter, the fans empower the artist...what a beautiful synergy to tap into. We have worked on some creative incentives to make this worth your while. Every ounce of generosity from our fans will be rewarded with a variety of Totsy schwag. We'll have everything from Totsy tees and CDs, to a chance to perform right on stage with Totsy! It all depends on your level of commitment. So get involved!
ALL THINGS TOTSY
We will be updating our website with videos and blogs from the road. We invite you to follow us along during our tour. www.totsyband.com.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
RISKS AND CHALLENGES
With any undertaking as massive as this, there are bound to be risks and challenges. We are about to embark on a massive tour across the United States, during winter. We are spending a majority of our tour on the east coast, and we know that many issues may arise because of that. We may deal with snow storms, generator issues, bus breakdowns, colds, flu, bus fever (since all eight of us will be on the same bus), exhaustion, etc. You name it, it may happen. But, it is all worth it. We have a rare opportunity in front of us and are prepared to deal with whatever comes our way.
Another big challenge we have, as a band, is that our music is different. It's our biggest challenge and our biggest advantage. As Totsy, we have created a new sound which people are not, yet, familiar with. We don't know what will happen. People may get it and love it, or they may not. And that is a risk. We have poured countless hours, money, and energy into this project. We believe in Totsy. We believe in the sound, the look, and the heart of the band. This tour is our chance to share this project with the entire country. But, we need your help to make that happen. If we don't make our goal of 20,000, we don't get a dime. We need to meet our goal, or exceed it, in order for this tour to become a reality. Thank you!
