Welcome to my AnimRings project featuring a spinning ring with an actual animation cut into it! As an artist I have always been interested in illustration, crafts and animation. In AnimRings I am excited to combine all three of my passions into one elegant design. Inspired by the Zoetrop, AnimRings are made of an inner ring that stays stationary and an outer ring that turns by hand, creating the illusion of life.
So far there are three AnimRings to choose from, designed to represent some of the basic animation principals. My Kangaroo Mouse design highlights the animation principals of squash and stretch, and flowing arcs to create an elegantly arcing rodent. My Goldfish design uses the techniques of follow-through and overlapping action to swim through a sea of silver. And my Bird ring pays homage to our feathered friend as an archetype of animation.
Each AnimRing measures approximately 11mm wide and is made of sterling silver. The animation is hand-cut using a jeweler’s saw and bent to form the outer ring. The inner ring is oxidized on the upper surface creating a nice black patina to highlight the finished animation silhouettes.
Where You Come In
I am asking for your help to carry me to the next stages of production for AnimRings. My rings are designed in sterling silver; it takes a bit of capital to make enough rings and sizes to start selling them.
My Kickstarter goal is two-fold. My first goal is to raise $2500 so that I can make enough ring sizes to attend the San Francisco craft fairs this holiday season. I intend to exhibit AnimRings at the RISD alumni sale and the Renegade Craft Fair in December. By selling at these events, I hope to gain interest in my design and generate income to pursue my ultimate goal of manufacturing AnimRings.
My second and ultimate goal is to raise $15,000. This goal will enable me to get AnimRings laser cut and manufactured, so I can make my product more affordable to more people. Your contribution will help me with all aspects of the production process from research and development to manufacturing and shipping costs.
If my project is funded, contributors will receive these gifts based on their donation level:
At this level you will receive a limited edition block print, signed and numbered, of my kangaroo mouse animation. I cut the “4.5 x 9.25” linoleum block by hand, and the print is only available for this Kickstarter.
This 100% cotton t-shirt features my hopping kangaroo mouse.
One of my most popular earring designs, featured at Pathos Designs is my Mosquito Earring made of sterling silver. The probiscus of this blood sucker is the ear wire, so that they look like they are having a nice meal on your ear without any real loss of blood.
For the first time I am offering my animation ring without the base. You choose either the Kangaroo Mouse, the Goldfish or the Bird AnimRing. Rings are made from sterling silver in any whole or half size from 5-13. Small ring sizes may have fewer drawings due to the available space.
A thinner version of the animation ring without the base is now available in the Bird AnimRing design. The width is approximately 7mm. Rings are made from sterling silver in any whole or half size from 5-13 . Small ring sizes may have fewer drawings due to the available space.
The full AnimRing! AnimRings are hand-cut and crafted in sterling silver. The inner ring is oxidized black to contrast the animation silhouettes against the silver. You choose either the Kangaroo Mouse, the Goldfish, or the Bird AnimRing. It is available in any whole or half size from 5-13. Small ring sizes may have fewer drawings due to the available space.
Thank you for taking the time to check out my Kickstarter!
