This album has been taking shape for quite some time now. What started out over two years ago as just a stripped down EP of a few songs we had been working on, has turned into a full production 12 track album.
As we got into the process of recording, we started writing more music and there seemed to be a common thread running through all the songs. We are aware of God's relentless pursuit of us and sometimes we are running into his arms, but so often we are running away. All the while He is chasing hard after us, not from obligation, but because He so loves to rescue us. This idea of "running and chasing" seemed to be that thread, so we chose that as the title.
Having guys in the band who have their own studio has been very beneficial and has allowed us to cut a lot of corners financially. But not all corners can be cut and we can't handle the financial burden of getting this thing completed, at least not all at one time. And the purpose is not so we can just make a big profit from the sales - we are just SO ready to get this music into your hands, then into your CD player/ipod and into your ears!
The music is all recorded and ready to be mixed, mastered and printed. Our goal amount is a bare minimum amount for getting it completed. If we don't get this full amount, the project doesn't get funded at all. But even if we have reached our goal, please continue to give if you want to help out. There are ways we would like to make it better and giving above the goal will help make that happen.
We've done all we can with the resources we have. Now YOU have the chance to get involved with getting this thing wrapped up. Please look at the rewards section and give what you can and PLEASE tell someone else about this so they can get involved as well.
We so deeply appreciate your help. Seriously! You are enabling us to do what we love and we do not take that lightly. Thank you in advance for funding this project.
Grace and peace to you!
We set a minimum goal amount for getting the project completed and then set up a rewards/incentive package for each level of giving. You can pledge as little as $1 and as much as $10k. No one is charged anything until the deadline is up (June 18 @ 1:00am) and that's only if we have reached the full goal amount.
This is a way of protecting you, the "investor". Since we set the goal as a minimum amount for getting the CD completed, then anything less than that set amount will mean we cannot finish. This will insure that what you give will not be given without being able to see the finished product within a reasonable amount of time. It's sort of a low risk investment, if you will.
WARING: LONG ANSWER ALERT!:
If you've never had any experience with the recording industry then I'm sure $6,500 is a high amount to you. But the truth is that this is quite a low price compared to what it actually costs to produce a full length album. A CD at Wal Mart only costs $17 at the most, right?
We have been very fortunate to have recorded all the music ourselves. If were to pay a low rate of $35 per hour (this is a really low rate), then the time we have put into this thing so far would come to at least $6,000. And that's just to record the individual instruments and voices. The next step is to send it off to be mixed. There's more to this than just blending the stuff together - there are multiple effects and EQ's for every one of the tracks (some of these songs have thirty plus tracks each) and to put all this together without it sounding like a big fat mess requires a well trained ear.
This part will cost $2,500.
After the mixing comes the mastering. Here is a very basic explanation of mastering: you take all the mixed tracks, do an overall EQ and compression of all the songs to make them have a similar feel/sound throughout the entire record (you don't want to be driving down the road listening to it and constantly adjusting the volume, turning the bass up and down, etc.) And it helps to give the songs a vibrant energetic feel.
This part of the process will cost about $1,000.
Now the songs are done. But we have to package it somehow. So we send it off to have it printed. But before this, the packaging has to be designed, which involves a photographer and a graphic designer. If we use professional people who are very kind and generous, then we might get this done for $500.
Then we can finally send it to print. The price break for printing an album (burning the songs and info to a CD, printing info on the top of the CD, printing the cover and leaflet and the CD case) starts at 1000 CD's. It'll cost roughly the same amount if we print 1000 or 300 (crazy, I know, but we can't fight that).
This price will come to close to $2,000.
Then there are processing and distribution fees (kickstarter isn't completely free, gotta put the songs on itunes, etc).
I estimate this to be around $750.
So that brings us to a grand total of $12,750 for the total cost of the project with $6,750 left to go, which is $250 over our goal.
If you have read this far, then you have just endured some extremely boring reading. I'm impressed with your perseverance.
We will be selling these CD's, yes. And we do hope to sell a bunch of them. But the profit made from the sales will be going to help fund our ministry.
We hope to record more music in the future, so we will be saving toward this. Also, traveling and playing music costs a lot so I'm sure gas stations will be getting a portion of this as well.
