Jacqui is a simple handbag company rooted in the belief that personal style always exceeds fashion. I'm Matt Pierce and I've been creating bags and accessories since 2010 as the founder of Wood&Faulk. A few years ago, I introduced the slouch leather series – a line of bags using an amazingly soft, slouchy leather sourced from a 145 year-old tannery in Minnesota. Those bags have become some of Wood&Faulk's best sellers, but have always been under the shadow of the waxed canvas and rugged leather style that W&F is known for.
After some careful consideration and the support of customers and friends, I've decided to bring these bags into their own sunlight and create a new company for them called Jacqui. It is my mother's name and her mother's name and I feel like it's a wonderful representation of the style and feeling that these bags evoke.
In addition to starting a new company with some existing pieces, I wanted to release a bag that serves as a perfect transition and flagship piece for Jacqui. Aptly named the Jacqui Bag, it's a beautiful example of style over fashion. A simple, yet engaging silhouette and materials that become softer and more amazing with time. My philosophy is to create bags and accessories that lean towards cherished... items that develop a greater softness, patina and their own histories as you carry them.
By supporting this campaign, you not only have a chance to own one of the first Jacqui bags, but your pledge will champion responsible manufacturing and fuel a local economy of professional sewers and craftspeople. All of these items will be cut, sewn and assembled in Portland, Oregon.
The Jacqui Bag
The Jacqui Crossbody
I'll also be offering our smaller bag, the Jacqui Crossbody. It's an upgraded bag from the Wood&Faulk Leather Field Bag... a bag that's been a W&F bestseller for years. It's being updated for Jacqui with a cotton liner, inner zip pocket, nickel finish hardware and a longer crossbody strap plus the shorter shoulder strap. Both straps are fully interchangeable.
Here's a size comparison between the bags... more info at www.jacqui.us as well!
Additionally, you can support the project and receive a Jacqui leather clutch. The standard size is at the $95 reward level, and measures 7in tall and 10.5in wide. Our oversized clutch is at the $125 reward level and measures 10.5in tall and 13in wide. Each size is available as black or fawn colors.
At the $25 reward level is the Jacqui Fringe Fob. A beautiful and functional key ring accessory, or clippable addition to your bag. Available in black or fawn colors as well.
Project Thanks – Huge thanks to Robert A. Cuadra for the best shooting, edit and color for the Jacqui video. This project could not have been so exciting otherwise.
Risks and challenges
I'm planning ahead for the biggest risk and that would be a slipping manufacturing schedule. Our leather delivery is typically 8 weeks from order, then production starts in quality controlled batches and that does take some time. Our schedule is very realistic and we'll be working hard to deliver as fast as possible. Thankfully we know our material suppliers and have counted on them for years. We're fortunate to have great existing relationships in this industry.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
