About

ABLmind - Relapse Prevention and Early Intervention for People Suffering with Mental Illness

ABLmind is a real-time, e-monitoring mental illness tool making early intervention achievable.  ABLmind supports self-monitoring, engages personal support networks, and leads to early intervention essential for recovery and thriving in one’s life.

ABLmind does not diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent an illness or condition.

Mental Illness Revolving Door

We created the "Mental Illness Revolving Door" concept to illustrate the four phases of mental illness, post-diagnosis.

Management Phase - Individuals are successfully following a treatment plan (prescribed by their treatment team) but troubling symptoms may begin to resurface.

Intervention Phase - Individuals are experiencing troubling symptoms or a deteriorating state and need help but intervention is not readily available.  A relapse is imminent.

Relapse Phase - Deterioration leads to a critical state where professional help is necessary.

Recovery Phase - Once professional help begins and an individual is following a treatment plan (prescribed by their treatment team), relapse recovery can begin.

We created the following infograph to illustrate this concept:

 Why ABLmind?

When trying to help individuals with mental illness, the two critical components necessary for keeping individuals on track are relapse prevention and early intervention.  This is where ABLmind can help.

Relapse Prevention

ABLmind encourages individuals to succeed in the Management Phase by following their prescribed treatment plan in a fun and easy way.  By simplifying management, ABLmind enables individuals to enjoy life’s moments by staying on track.

Early Intervention

ABLmind supports the truest form of early intervention by offering real-time monitoring of your mental state and alerting your support network when early warning signs of an impending relapse occur.  With monitoring and early intervention, ABLmind offers you and your loved ones peace of mind.

Stopping the Mental Illness Revolving Door

ABLmind's unique features are aimed at preventing the reoccurances of relapse.  In the Management Phase, individuals may have trouble following their professionally prescribed treatment plan successfully.  With ABLmind, individuals constantly receive guidance and support to help them stay on track.

Individuals can work to stay in the Management Phase, but if the situation worsens, their support network can step in with early intervention and give the individual the attention needed to get them back on their prescribed treatment plan.

The following diagram illustrates where ABLmind can help:

 Who Does ABLmind Help?

1)  Individuals, post diagnosis, who suffer with mental illness

  •  ABLmind works best for individuals who are currently following a prescribed treatment plan and have a desire to stay healthy, but may struggle to stay on track.
  •  ABLmind is designed to help individuals regardless of the number of times they have experienced relapse.  This is actually where ABLmind can be most helpful!  The goal is to leverage technology to help reduce the probability and occurrence of a relapse.
  •  ABLmind is designed to help all forms of mental illness, including those with multiple disorders.  We understand that each illness has specific symptoms, effects or treatment requirements.  We also understand that similar illnesses can present differently from person-to-person.
  •  ABLmind is easy to use, yet supports a wide range of mental illnesses.
  •  ABLmind does not require a support network (friends, family, etc.), but it is beneficial to maximize all of the benefits.
  •  ABLmind can be tailored to monitor a person’s specific symptoms and prescribed treatment plan.

2) Individuals who support a person suffering with mental illness

  •  ABLmind allows individuals to add people to their support network.  If your loved one is having difficulty recognizing when their prescribed treatment gets off track, they may be more successful if they have a support network.
  •  ABLmind makes it easy to effectively support your friend or loved one by actively monitoring their real time condition and intervening when needed.
  •  ABLmind provides you with peace of mind knowing that you will receive real-time monitoring and notifications at the earliest moment.

3) Professionals who provide services or treatment for people with mental illness

  •  ABLmind helps professionals to actively monitor their patient's real-time condition and provides an early awareness of declining mental state.
  •  ABLmind tracks numerous factors that directly affect a person’s mental illness such as: slight changes in their medication, poor diet, sleep pattern changes, lack of exercise, etc.
  •  ABLmind provides insight on what helps and what hinders a patient’s mental state with access to real-time monitoring and reporting.

 ABLmind - Road to Recovery

The road to recovery with mental illness requires an individual to be able to set goals and achieve them.  Individuals suffering from a mental illness condition often struggle with completing even the most basic tasks such as getting out of bed.  This is where ABLmind provides the missing link.

ABLmind is an affordable and easy to use e-monitoring mental illness tool promoting early intervention leading to recovery and thriving in one’s life.

-Compile suggested improvements and enhancements based upon productive and   healthy dialogue with our users
-Prioritize and implement suggested functionality by phase
-Communicate upcoming enhancements and how they help our users

 ABLmind - Timeline

ABLmind - Why Are We the Team to Get This Done?

1) Each member of our team has successfully managed and implemented major information technology projects.

2) Our team has a long history of experience with various technologies.

3) Our team is motivated and passionate. We are driven to develop ABLmind because:

  • We have loved ones suffering with mental illness.
  • We have loved ones who have either contemplated suicide, attempted to harm themselves, or unfortunately taken their life.
  • We work in a field that interacts with a high percentage of people that suffer with mental illness.
  • We work in professions where the workforce experiences high rates of mental illness, due to trauma, including the military, health care services, and public safety.

4) We are respectful of all of the accomplishments and improvements made by the  professionals and change agents in this field, but we want more!

  • We are dissatisfied with the lack of effectiveness in current treatments and availability of innovative treatments.
  • Funding and services for people suffering with mental illness are being continually reduced or cut all together.

"We are going to use all of our talents to develop a product that leverages technology that not only fills the increasing void but also significantly helps and improves the lives of people with mental illness. We want people to live life without fear or experience any major debilitating effects of a mental illness. We want to significantly reduce the incidents of relapse. We do not want people attempting to harm themselves. We think they are beautiful and have so many reasons to live a happy and productive life surrounded by their family and friends. We are their family and friends and we don’t want to lose them!"

Did You Know - Over 450 Million People Worldwide Suffer With Some Form of a Mental Illness

Is that you? Or someone you know?

Today’s statistics are inconceivable, and mental illness is still on the rise.  Can you believe that most individuals’ conditions are not treated until they are in a crisis?  Many times treatment is denied, inadequate or just not available.  In other cases, individuals may not seek help because they cannot overcome the ongoing stigma of mental illness.  This leaves a large portion of individuals suffering from mental illness on their own with no options. Sadly, our society is under the notion that mental illness is not an issue.  Alarmingly, the burden of care has fallen on our judicial systems where public safety professionals are forced to handle, house and medicate individuals who are incarcerated due to actions driven by their diminished mental state.  Don’t let this happen to you or your loved one!

With the advancement of modern medicine, the sheer number of doctors available, and the magnitude of research relating to studying mental health, why is mental illness still on the rise?

In the United States, alone, it is estimated that:

  •  1-in-5 (1 million) adults and children suffer with mental illness
  •  1-in-25 (10 million) adults suffer with a serious mental illness
  •  90% of those who die by suicide suffered with an underlying mental illness
  •  70% of incarcerated youth suffer with a mental illness
  •  64% of local jail inmates, 56% of state prisoners, and 45% of federal prisoners suffer with a serious mental illness

And Worldwide, it is estimated that:

  •  1-in-4 (450 million) people suffer with mental illness
  • Global cost of mental illness is estimated at $2.5 trillion yearly and dramatically increasing

Family and friends constantly worry about a loved one suffering with mental illness

  • Are you having trouble finding help for you or your loved one?
  • What if you could help a loved one struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD, or other mental illness?
  • What if you could help your loved one before they relapse?
  • What if you could prevent a suicide?

Risks and challenges

Some situations beyond our control may occur. To mitigate we will:
· Identify foreseeable risks and have a mitigation plan in place
· Avoid risk exposure by project planning and adhering to our timeline to include phased builds testing, and feedback solicitation
· Be prepared to adapt and make allowances for possible unforeseen risks with a contingency plan

What we think will benefit our users with mental illness may not be on target. To mitigate we will:
· Promote communication with people suffering from mental illness
· Solicit feedback by offering direct feedback in two of our pledge levels
· Desire to receive honest and meaningful feedback from people suffering from mental illness and their involved loved ones
· Real feedback will allow us to adjust and implement the appropriate functionality to ensure our app will truly make the difference in our users lives

Changes in scope, requirements or timeline may occur. To mitigate we will:
· Formulate our minimal viable product
· Allow enough time for and be adaptable to change according to solicited feedback before build begins
· Use phased approach to include and control functionality to be implemented

Procuring appropriate project resources, developers, etc. To mitigate we will:
· We are seeking developer(s) possessing a certain combination of knowledge, experience, background and commitment

Our backgrounds and knowledge may not be sufficient.
· Each of us possess a rich combination of project management and IT skills and incredibly solid overlapping strengths
· We have the luxury of working together face to face on a regular basis
· We possess the same powerful goals and objectives in our heartfelt desire to actually put something in action that will truly help people prevail over their mental illness

We may not reach everyone that could benefit from the ABLmind App. To mitigate we will:
· Launch a marketing campaign on social media using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest
· Launch a Kickstarter campaign
· Spread the word to everyone we know and reach out to those we don't know
