3Dponics is a free, 3D-printable hydroponics system perfect for growing tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, lettuce, microgreens, herbs, strawberries and even flowers in the comfort of your own home. It's eco-friendly and energy-efficient, giving you fresh, local and organic ingredients.
We've spent nearly two years conceptualizing and testing the 3Dponics system; now, we need your help to bring it into the hands of people all over the world!
Why We Need Your Help
The funds raised through this campaign will help us build an online community of growers who share our passion for clean, sustainable living. The point is to encourage people to use it, develop upgrade for it and be active members of the 3Dponics community by sharing their stories, ideas, problems, solutions, and tips and tricks.
You'll be able to post pictures of your system, create upgrades or accessories for it and interact with other growers. If you want to, you can even share/trade/sell what you grow to people in your area! Best of all, sell the food you grow to your neighbors locally!
With everyone’s help, we hope to change the way people shop for, grow and eat their food. This is just the first step.
Because we have our own web development team, what we need more than money is a social backing. We hope that everyone who likes our idea will share it with their friends (regardless of whether or not they back us or build their own 3Dponics system). We also hope that you'll sign up and join our online community!

Completely Free and Open Source
3Dponics system is completely free and open source. But we need your help to create new parts, upgrades and accessories for it and make this system truly HUGE!

Don't Have a 3D Printer? No Problem!
We have partnered with 3D Hubs, the world's largest network of 3d printers, to bring access to 3Dponics system to those without a 3D printer.
3D Hubs is the world's largest network of 3D printers with over 6,000 printing locations across 80 countries (and counting), helping people print 3D customised products locally every day. World's largest network of 3D Printers allowing anyone to 3D print around the corner.
$10,000 - We'll go around Ottawa and set up 3Dponics systems for local charities, shelters, non-profit organizations to give them the resources to grow their own fresh, healthy food. After all, that is the overall goal of having a 3Dponics system.
$15,000 - We'll develop a mobile-friendly app that allows users to manage and control their 3Dponics system remotely. You could connect your camera for a real-time feed, turn the system on/off when you're not home, schedule the pump days in advance and much, much more. The possibilities are truly endless.
$20,000 - We'll attend trade shows and farmer’s markets across Ontario and Quebec in order to get the word out to farmers and hobbyists about the 3Dponics system.
$30,000 - We'll beef up our R&D lab in order to achieve better quality prints, elaborate our designs and promote innovation. That said, we’d love to get our hands on a 3D scanner as well as the new MakerBot Replicator Z18, soupe it up with various parts and accessories, and stock up on filament.
$50,000 - Unlock the next level of hydroponics—the Internet-enabled SMART 3Dponics system!
If we raise enough money through this campaign, we'll work on making the first Internet-enabled hydroponics system.
Just imagine the possibilities--you could monitor your plant 24/7 via live video streaming; you could turn your 3Dponics system on/off via an Android or iOS app; you could monitor nutrient levels in real time; and you could review all of the data in an easy-to-read and meaningful format.
We have already selected the Odroid-U3 to power our first Internet-enabled 3Dponics system, but you could use virtually any microprocessor (Odroid-U3, raspberry pi, etc.) to monitor local weather forecasts and schedule the watering system accordingly. You could also program your system to run at a preferred time of day (i.e. when electricity rates are lowest).
And if you connect your system to a solar panel, you could even control the orientation of the solar panel relative to the sun via an app.

Risks and challenges
Our main challenge will be to get people adjusted to the idea of using a system that isn't necessarily picture perfect. One way of tackling this problem is to make the system completely free. Once people see its functionality and benefits, they'll look past the not-so-perfect exterior and even be encouraged to improve it even further.
We also expect that it will take some time to build up a solid base of users. So, a portion of the funds raised through Kickstarter will go towards social media marketing and other forms of online marketing.
