How did this start? Over the last few years, in addition to creating interactive 360 photography for 3DJoes, I have been photographing every piece of G.I.Joe: A Real American Hero art that I can get my hands on. I started with the 1982-1994 carded figures (which can be viewed on the Yearbook page) and then moved into documenting the vehicle boxes, catalogs and offers, books, posters and more. All are accessible via the vehicles and print tabs at 3DJoes.
Once the art is photographed, I digitally restore these photos by removing creases, tears, price tags, hand writing and the like to create as clean an image as possible.
Enter 3DJoes posters. Before long, I had collected and documented enough carded figures to start making posters. Last year I ran a kickstarter and funded printing of 3 new posters! These posters are still for sale, and proceeds help cover the $1,750 a year it costs to run 3DJoes. You can pick these up for $10 each through this kickstarter!
So why make books? Well, the answer is simple: you guys demanded it! I've fielded countless requests for a G.I.Joe art book since the first carded figure poster debuted. Most often people tell me they love the posters but they are running out of wall space (or never had any to start with).
Enter Collecting the art of G.I.Joe, Volume 1!
Collecting the art of G.I.Joe: Volume 1 is a 60 page 8"x11" celebration of the art of G.I.Joe: A Real American Hero. It covers the first two years of vehicles, playsets, carded figures and peripheral painted art. This incredible hardcover is now available for order at 3DJoes.
These print on demand hardcovers are incredible, but the $205 cost is out of range for many. That’s where this Kickstarter campaign comes in!
Even more impressive, the cover will be card stock with an AccuFoil print! If you missed last year’s kickstarter postcards, check them out! These are printed on foil paper with special inks. The art is undisturbed head on, but reflects light at an angle for an incredibly luminous effect.
Just imagine a wraparound 11x16 cover using this technology! It will be incredible, and you can help me make it happen. Please have a look at the rewards, back this project today, and tell your friends to jump in too!
P.S. Don't miss the "To the Rescue" and "Stars and Stripes Forever" posters! They are limited to 100 copies and exclusive to this Kickstarter.
Risks and challenges
Designs are complete and I have utilized this local printer several times before, so I do not anticipate any delays. We should be printed and shipping by early July!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
