Stretch Goal #4 $180,000 - Type B pilot dial
History of the Pilot’s Watch
The pilot watch (or Observation watch) was developed by the RLM (Reichs-Luftfahrtministerium, or Reich’s Ministry of Air Transport) in WW2 for use by navigators in conjunction with charts and other tools. One distinct feature of the watch was the triangle marker at 12 o’clock flanked by two dots. It gave a quick indication of the upward orientation of the dial during night flight. The triangle also functioned as a solar compass to find the earth’s true north when used with sextants, compass and data charts.
A Classic, Reimagined
Brass is one of the oldest alloys known to man and was used for its gold appearance when new. Over time and use, this bright gold weathers to a rustic brown. This weathering is based on the environment the watch is being worn in, making it truly personal to you.
While keeping the design of the dial clean and true to the original pilot’s watch, a sandwich effect was created for the Caspian. This involves the use of 2 dial layers to create a slight layered effect which could be appreciated up close.
Luminous material is painted on the lower layer to allow for great visibility at night.
The crystal is also made from sapphire, the most scratch resistant material available. Its slight domed shape pays tribute to the crystals used in vintage watches.
The Caspian-01 and 02 are powered by the Seiko NH35, a reliable and robust automatic movement. It will never need a battery change unlike quartz watches, with just a quick shake to power up.
For the chronograph model 03 and 04, we chose the Seiko Mechaquartz Chronograph movement. This allowed costs to be kept low (unlike a mechanical chronograph) while having the same look and feel. The smooth sweep of the chronograph hand is similar to what you’d find on a mechanical chronograph easily costing 5 times more.
Selection of the dial variants will be done during the shipping survey.

Ventus came up as an idea to offer affordable and classic timepieces with small but unique twists. It was founded by two close friends, Elshan, who has been involved with three successful KS watch projects, and Shane, a passionate collector of mechanical wristwatches.
Samples, molds and drawings are in hand and ready for production. All we need now is the funds for production to begin!
Delivery is due by the end of August as the typical production schedule requires approximately 3 months once the order is placed.
