What is a prototype?

A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:

Proof of Concept

Explorations that test ideas and functionality.

Functional Prototype

Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.

Appearance Prototype

Looks like the final product, but is not functional.

Design Prototype

Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.

Production Prototype

Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.

We Love Digital Arts and So Do Kids!

Kids love imagining and creating using digital devices! Many schools teach basic programming and productivity tools like Google Docs. Unfortunately, most students do not learn valuable digital art skills such as creating websites, graphic designs, 3D models, games, videos and animation because most schools just don't have the time, funding, and qualified staff to teach these skills. Home-schooled kids also often miss out on learning these skills because parents frequently don't know these technologies, and existing resources are hard to find and/or very expensive. Learning these skills will open new doors for students and better prepare them for future education and ultimately careers. How will we help tomorrow's generation learn these invaluable digital arts skills?

Meet MsComputerTeacher.com! Our website provides free, easy-to-understand, step-by-step video tutorials that walk students through creating many different digital products. They learn by doing as we teach using projects, not courses. Today, our video library teaches kids how to make a digital portfolio website, edit photographs, build a personalized 3D model, animate a growing flower, build a basic game using JavaScript, and more – and we’ve only started!

Our resources are appropriate for any student aged 9 and up. Grade school, high school, and yes, even some adults have used our videos. We use free, web-based apps that work on any Internet-connected device so that students can use their laptops and tablets regardless of operating system.

All of our resources are kid-tested and kid-approved. Here's what kids and teachers have to say about our videos:

 What kids are saying…

 • “very step-by-step”
 • “very easy to understand”
 • “I want to keep doing it because it’s fun.”
 • “gave me lots of tips to help”
 • “It’s easy for me to comprehend.”
 • “I highly recommend MsComputerTeacher.com.”

 What teachers are saying…

 • “MsComputerTeacher.com is on the forefront of how we as teachers want to teach.”
 • “My kids can work on MsComputerTeacher.com independently.”
 • “One project gives me lesson plans for a week!”
 • “I don’t have to have all the answers.”
 • “I have more time to focus on assessment and differentiation for students.”

About our Funding Goal

Creating quality tutorials and having them kid-tested and kid-approved takes resources. It costs approximately $1,500 to make one project series. We need a videographer, an editor, a subject-matter expert, and we partner with kids to be the voice and face in our videos. We're raising funds to build the following six projects in the next three months:

 • Anti-bullying campaign video using WeVideo
 • Build a game using Flowlab
 • Design and print your own customized jewelry or dog tag using Tinkercad
 • Create an animated commercial using Animatron
 • Build a small business website using Weebly
 • Design and build an app for your small business using AppyPie

In addition to building and testing these projects, we have allocated funds for social media marketing so that we can reach parents and teachers of creative and tech-interested kids. Funds have also been allocated for our pledge gifts and Kickstarter fees. For every $1,500 over our $12,388 goal we will create a new project series on a topic chosen by our dedicated users.

Thank you for supporting digital arts education for kids! Let's get kids creating!

Risks and challenges

As with any project, there are potential risks and challenges. We have already identified the people who will help bring our projects to life. A potential challenge is coordinating efforts between these people so that all projects are completed within our deadline. We are being proactive. Communication has already begun between our teams so that expectations are clear. Also, timelines have been set to minimize any risk of not meeting our proposed deadlines. We are on it! Any delays will be communicated to our backers in a timely manner.
