Israeli and Palestinian women have combined their efforts and their cultures to produce a new line of handmade elite fashion. Each unique piece in the collection unites traditional Palestinian embroidery with modern fabrics and styles, creating a striking blend of the old and the new. Our project is to actually produce our first fashion collection. The Kickstarter campaign allows us to purchase the fabric and thread for this collection.
A Palestinian, an Israeli and a retired American couple met in Beit Jala..... It may sound like the beginning of a joke, but to us, it was the beginning of a partnership filled with hope for a peaceful future, because despite the many tensions and history of conflict, we are still Two Neighbors who should be able to coexist in peace. We first met at a Global Village Square event in the small border town of Beit Jala between Israel and the Palestinian Territories - one of the few places where Israelis and Palestinians are free to meet on equal grounds. At the meeting, we shared the feeling that we had all been waiting for peace to happen for far too long and decided to become proactive in the process in any way we could.
After many subsequent meetings and hours of deliberation, we decided that the best way for us to make a positive impact would be to demonstrate our willingness to work together to create products that integrate our different cultures. It was also a priority for us that Two Neighbors would benefit the people involved in the project, by creating jobs and providing new sources of income and fostering cross-cultural exchanges.
We ultimately decided to showcase traditional Palestinian embroidery on a range of modern products and fashion wear. In this way, we could provide much needed work for women in impoverished Palestinian villages and limited income Israeli seamstresses. We created a vibrant line of high fashion dresses and innovative textile products, which highlight both Palestinian embroidery and Israeli craftsmanship.
The Two Neighbors project combines the motifs of traditional embroidery from Palestinian culture with the modern design of Israeli culture, resulting in exquisitely unique products that are full of soul.
We have been working hard to create a positive impact on Israeli-Palestinian relations, but we can't do it without you! We need your help to spread the word about this project so that we can share these beautiful creations with the world!
How can you help? Pledging support to our project will allow us to actually produce our first collection - creating jobs for the women involved in our process of creating unique products. But pledging is not the only way to support us. By sharing this project on Facebook, Twitter and everywhere else you will help spread the word about these wonderful creations and the unlikely yet beautiful partnership between Two Neighbors.

Risks and challenges
Since our inception in 2010, many women have been involved, first working on their partnership and then on designing new products together. This past year, we at Two Neighbors have been working tirelessly to finalize the many elements of design: renovating the traditional embroidery techniques; training the women from the villages to use modern fabrics and silk threads; and working to unite the time-honored patterns with modern cuts and styles.
Our biggest issue in the future will be the directed marketing of our products. We want to share our vision with people who are interested in both quality fashion wear and social issues. Despite our wish to demonstrate and encourage productive collaboration between the neighbors on either side of the conflict, we are aware that we will face much scrutiny for our ambitions. It is our hope that you will share the Two Neighbors Kickstarter project and help us reach those who would like to aid our efforts.
