About this project
The writings of H.P Lovecraft and the art of Text mode (text characters rather than pixels) have an unnatural binding. How can one show the unfathomable nightmares by the writer from Providence, if not using the tool that is the Commodore 64?
Those who remember (or even still use) the Commodore machine can certainly perceive what I saw the first time I encountered the art of Raquel Meyers. It seems that the insane descriptions from the Lovecraft’s stories were born to be depicted with the character set known as PETSCII (C64 ASCII) of that computer’s keyboard. So here we are.
H.P. Lovecraft in Text Mode is a Hardcover book with a gold foil cover (210 x 285 mm), from two of his more obscure writings, “Dagon” and “Nyarlathotep”. Our intention to create a wonderful book with 80 glossy pages of horrors, fears, and ASCII graphics.
Please help us to make this possible by backing this project. We have a big mystery stretch goal in mind to be reached. But first, what we need is the money to make it possible. In addition to the book, we will also print T-shirts, stickers, and postcards with the illustrations.
Every backer will be credited as a supporter of this publishing in a very special page of the book.
About the Artwork:
Raquel Meyers is a Spanish artist based in Sweden. She defines her practice as KYBDslöjd (Drawing by Typing). The grid is the framework and the characters are the instructions. KYBDslöjd is the joy of text mode. A brutalist storytelling about technology. She is also known under the name of AcidT* (Hack n' Trade) in the C64 demoscene for her work with PETSCII and BBS graphics.
Since 2004 she has performed at festivals like Transmediale, Piksel, Mapping, La Casa encendida and Cimatics, at 8bit events like Tokyo Blip Festival and the Playlist exhibition, as well at Liste Art Fair Basel, Ars Electronica Center, Alingsås Konsthall, Bonniers Konsthall, Xpo Gallery, Click New Media Arts Festival, Alt_Cph, BEK- Bergen Center for Electronic Arts, LABoral and iMAL.

STRETCH GOAL / The Secret Recording
A mysterious tape will appear if we reach the 15000€ goal. Are you curious about what we have FOR FREE in mind for all our backers? Help us to bring the Secret Recording out of the Cosmics Horror’s Darkest Depths.
Special Thanks to Dena and Domingo!
Risks and challenges
Raquel and Questron have much experience doing this kind of work.
Raquel will create all the illustrations by Type In text characters on the C64 keyboard. She'll be in charge of the design and layout of the book, as well as T-shirts, stickers and Postcards.
Questron will be the producer and in charge of logistics. The copies of the book will travel from China to Europe, and that’s the only risk Questron is going to take with this publishing. The sending from Questron to the backers will be done by secure mail, in a well-protected box.
This is the first KS project for Questron and Raquel. The challenge is on!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
