The Lord of Poker is a Role-playing Poker Game (RPPG).
RPPG is a unique gaming genre that combines poker, an RPG, and a fantasy card game and expands your gaming experience through innovative gameplay. When developing the original idea we were inspired by such video games as HoMM 3, Hearthstone and Dota 2.
You can see the current status of the game’s development in the chart below. We have been into the idea of the Lord of Poker for more than a year now and we are strongly determined to complete the game. We've come as far as we can and we need your help! Every pledge gets us a step closer to our goal.
Lord of Poker is Unity based. Initially we will deliver the game to PC and Mac OSX. Hopefully, we will port Lord of Poker to all popular gaming and mobile platforms enjoying the benefits of one centralized server.
Lord of Poker will be downloaded for free from the website. A monthly subscription at the price of $10 will be required to play the game. Please, note that each reward (starting from $5 pledge) includes the subscription for the number of months named in that reward.
We are planning to enable the best players to withdraw the real money from the game through the freeroll-type Main Tournament to be held monthly. Presumably, up to 10 % of the total amount of subscriptions for the respective month will be distributed as the prize pool in the Main Tournament.
We appreciate your feedback! You are welcome to join our communities in social networks and track our efforts on making this campaign happen!
In Lord of Poker, every class (Assassin, Paladin, Wizard, Druid, and Monk) has attributes distributed between four primary skills:
Each hero is different in appearance, style, abilities, and knowledge of magic, so choosing your class is much more than a cosmetic decision.
AVAILABLE ONLY FOR BACKERS (pledging more than $5)
In ancient times, nearly forgotten, poker was more than just a game. It was a way to resolve the deepest conflicts. In those days of yore, the ability to win at poker was closely connected with the knowledge of a secret poker magic… However, all Magic has a dark side, and over time some players were engulfed by greed and the influence of sinister forces. Rather than play by the rules, they sought to gain an advantage over others by any means, no matter how evil. Countless hands were won by these ruthless players.
The strongest among them vanquished many worthy opponents and accumulated an unimaginable fortune of gold and jewels, but as his power grew so his greed grew alongside it. He became a tyrant, known as the Dark Lord. And to preserve his wealth forever, the Dark Lord outlawed the use of Magic in poker. In the centuries since, most players have forgotten their hidden abilities and connection to Magic, relying instead on logic, reason, and intuition. As a result poker has become the ordinary card game known today.
A tiny Poker Village hidden in the most remote corner of the realm is now the only place where the secrets of Poker Magic exist and its esoteric arts are yet practiced. And it is there that a few brave heroes are determined to challenge the rule of the Dark Lord and return poker to its rightful state.
And so, a primeval battle between the forces of Light and Darkness is unleashed! Where Mind, Courage, Endurance, and Luck combine with the arcane forces of ancient Magic to play a role in determining the victor!
The foundation of the game is Texas Hold’em. Each round of card combat (poker session) starts with six participants – three players and three mobs, who play for gems. A participant is knocked out from the table when he/she loses all their gems. When a mob is being knocked out it may drop special items that players can acquire: pieces of equipment, magic runes, potions, magic scrolls and additional gold. Card combat continues until there is only one player left at the table. This player then takes all gold and items in the pot. The card combat mechanics gradually get more complicated with every level-up a hero gains.
Players gain experience by making specified poker moves and combos during card combat, completing quests, defeating opponents at the gaming table, etc. After reaching an experience threshold, your hero advances to the next level. With every level-up your hero gains 2 points to be distributed between two (four for the Monk) primary skills available for improvement. Note that the Paladin will more often receive points to be put towards the enhancement of Courage/Mind, while the Druid, for instance, will more frequently have to choose between Luck/Endurance. This system preserves the initial specialization of classes throughout the game. The backers can develop the Monk in the way they like it.
Magic is at the heart of The Lord of Poker. There are many different spells: defensive or offensive, blessing or cursing, those that can increase or decrease a hero’s attributes. Mastering them is the key to determining whether you will ascend to greatness or be banished into darkness.
You will learn how to cast spells in the Magic Guild. Before a new spell is added to your magic book, you must collect and correctly arrange magic runes into a runic inscription containing the spell.
Magic runes are obtained by knocking mobs out of play during card combat and also completing various quests throughout the game. Another way to cast magic spells during card combat is to use one-off magic scrolls that are bought, won, or found.
Every spell in the game costs some quantity of spell points (mana) to cast. Mana restores constantly during every hand of card combat, at a rate dependent on your hero’s Mind skill number.
The main in-game resource of Lord of Poker is gold. You will need it to enter card combat at any gaming location, buy valuable equipment in the Shop, purchase raw materials and learn skills to craft items at the Forge, and to learn spells in the Magic Guild. Players will be rewarded with a certain amount of gold each month of their gaming subscription. Gold is also won with victories in card combat, and can be earned for knocking mobs off the table. Completing quests very often brings you some coins as well. As in real life, extra gold is very handy.
Equipment improves primary skills and/or grants additional features and abilities to your hero. For example, a hero wearing armor will receive additional starting gems in every battle: сard combat in the Tavern starts with 1000 gems per player, while an equipped hero starts with 1100 gems. In this way, armor prolongs the life of the player in combat.
There is only a small chance that a defeated mob will drop a complete item. In most cases, you will get one or two pieces of an item. After you collect the required amount of pieces to craft a particular item, it is time to go to the Forge. Generally, an item acquired from a defeated mob or one crafted in the Forge is better than one bought from the Shop.
Please, note that our backers will get a unique, exclusive set of equipment unavailable for regular players.
The game is a completely open world.
While adventuring in the World you will visit five original locations where card combat occurs between players and mobs: Tavern, Forest, Swamp (Work in Progress), Mountain Trail (Work in Progress), Desert (Work in Progress)*.
* New locations may be added later as expansion packs, based on demand from backers/players.
As you engage in card combats in different locations, you will see how various environmental effects influence your play; such as “Fuddle” in the Tavern, “Fear” in the Forest, “Sink” in the Swamp, etc.
Each location has its own unique mobs which vary in strength and try to win card combat using different magic spells. The mobs always play as a team.
Although the game is completely open world, we have set some recommendations regarding the level your hero should have attained in order to succeed in card combat in a particular location. The further you proceed from the Village the stronger and more skillful are the mobs you will encounter.
On your way to the title of the Lord of Poker you must complete a ladder-type challenge which is held at the Fortress.
Each stage of the Challenge is a Heads Up match against another player. You must win all 5 sequential card combats to progress. You may, however, take a break after the completion of each stage and return to the Challenge later. The fifth and final battle is against the Fortress Guardian.
The Main Tournament in the Castle is where players holding platinum tickets contend for the title of the Lord of Poker and the prize pool. The tournament has several reward points. Players who succeeded in the Main Tournament will receive additional in-game gold every day until the next Main Event and also receive the prize money.
In addition to the card combat locations relating to the main quest, there is also a place for duels and team battles. This is Arena. Here players can challenge each other to duel and create their own bets, participate in various raids, or cooperate with friends and play team vs. team. In the Arena players gain combat points instead of experience. These points will not help your character level, but can be converted into a variety of useful game items and resources.
In the future we plan to introduce a Clan System to make combat even more exciting, and team gameplay a richer experience. The Lord’s War – card combat between clans – has all the hallmarks of the most popular e-sport disciplines.
The world is not just about card combat. There are many unique environments to discover and many ways to interact with the richly imagined world around you:
Side quests provide opportunities to earn rewards in the form of artifacts, magic runes, potions, magic scrolls and additional gold. Some quests have bonus objectives, optional tasks that can be worth, for instance, tickets to various Fortress stages, etc. Quests will be given to you in the Hut.
The Shop is the location where you can buy equipment, potions, scrolls, and just about anything else you might want or need, or sell unwanted items and resources. There are many wonders for sale in the Shop. Keep in mind, however, that the most valuable items in the game are those won in combat or forged from the pieces that you pick up in your travels.
For a price, the Blacksmith is able to craft unique items at your request. Though he will require raw materials (pieces of equipment) and gold to produce his wares, those are easily acquired along your journey. If you arrive at the Forge and are in a gaming mood (or your coin purse is light), you may challenge the Blacksmith to card combat. The bet will be the materials you’ve brought against the free services of the Blacksmith. Just be prepared to lose.
You will get a Collector Card each time you score off a mob for the first time. These will tell you the characteristics, skills, and possible drops of the mob. Players’ collector cards are stored in the Library. Its chambers contain the knowledge of the whole fantasy world, and of the game of poker in particular, so it is a place every rookie must visit.
One of the defining features of Lord of Poker is its rich and detailed atmosphere. We’ve all seen the key role that music and sound design play in making a game great. Therefore, great attention was paid to the game’s soundtrack and audio effects. Original Music music will be present in the game at every step:
Each game location will have its own immediately recognizable musical score, which is the spirit of the location;
A dynamic musical soundtrack will accompany gameplay at the poker table, and it will change as you move deeper into the card combat;
Each player action will be voiced, creating an exciting and interactive atmosphere at the table.
Check out portions of our original musical score below:
The core of our team is two friends from Belarus, who began work on Lord of Poker about a year ago. Alexander Petukh has a successful career in marketing and advertising, and Alexander Bernat is a professional poker player. The synergy between these two guys with overlapping skills and mutual enthusiasm for gaming has powered the project from the beginning. A testament to its strength, as soon as the idea was born the project began to attract talented collaborators. So here we are:
Belarus is the home of world-renowned IT companies such as EPAM, iTransition, Apalon Apps, Vizor Interactive. Although you may not know it, the MMORPG World of Tanks, popular mobile messenger app Viber, the latest trending selfie app MSQRD, and many other wildly successful applications all come from our home country. Inspired by their success and taking advantage of the strong local talent pool we are determined to deliver a world-class game.
First of all, we are looking for financing to bring our vision of role-poker game to life. So far, all the work done on the game has been powered by raw enthusiasm. We’re seeking funding so that we can devote ourselves full time to an idea that we love, and bolster that enthusiasm with a budget that will allow us to create a game you’ll be dying to play. In the next place, any feedback from our prospective players is very important to us. An active audience of kickstarter supporters will serve as a focus group of potential players, each an expert in their own right in what makes a compulsively playable game. We are going to find like-minded, interested people here. People who will help us shape this game into a product that fuses the high-stakes intensity of poker with the imaginative fantasy of role playing.
We have been devoted to the idea of this game for more than a year and would be glad to share each and every detail with our backers, or those interested in the project. We do not want to overload you at this stage, however we will have further announcements and explanations, so stay tuned! In the meantime, we welcome your questions, and will try to answer them as quickly and fully as possible!
All of the funds raised will be spent exclusively on the development of the game:
With your help we will be able to engage in the project full time, instead of only working on it in our spare time;
We will expand our team, hiring artists and several additional developers;
In addition to the basic version of the game, we plan to expand "Lord of Poker" and add new locations and types of gameplay. Your help can greatly speed up this process;
Lord of Poker’s lead development platforms are PC and Mac OSX, but we plan to port it to all popular gaming and mobile platforms (Android, iOS, PS4, etc.) with one centralized server
We look forward to your help in completing these quests.
All available rewards are described below for your convenience:
Game development is quite complex and challenging even for experienced studios let alone the new comers. Provided that “Lord of Poker” represents an entirely new game genre, we foresee certain risks in implementing the new features which may result in minor delays. Certain legal issues in the US relating to online gambling may as well arise (although we are not an online gambling facility or poker room). We have been advised by the US law firm on our full compliance with the federal laws.
Other than that, we are confident we can deliver the high quality game that meets the expectations of either ourselves and our backers/players.
We have decided in favor of subscription based model with the view to level the playing field. Since we are talking poker, not each player has an equal chance to succeed, but they all play by the same set of rules.
In game the players will receive X gold at the beginning of each month of subscription with no in-game purchases / paid content for real money to boost the player’s advance in level or to acquire stats-improving items.
The other reason for making the game a subscription based is that we want to have incentives to offer to our backers. In this case it is a 50% discount for subscription, exclusive character and other necessary items in the world of the Lord of Poker.
