The foundation of the game is Texas Hold’em. Each round of a card combat (poker session) starts with six participants – three real players and three AI-players, who play for gems. AI-players always play in the team. A participant is knocked out from the table when he/she loses all their gems. When an AI-player is being knocked out it may drop special items that players can acquire: pieces of equipment, magic runes, potions, magic scrolls and additional gold. Card combat continues until there is only one player left at the table.
Lord of Poker will be a free-to-play video game downloadable from the website available for PC and Mac OS. Top players will be able to win the real money in the in-game free-roll-type Main Tournament which will be held regularly in the Castle. The prize pool will be formed through the in-game purchases.
In Lord of Poker, every class (Assassin, Paladin, Wizard, Druid, and Monk) has their attributes distributed between four primary skills:
Each hero is different in appearance, style, abilities, and knowledge of magic, so choosing your class is much more than a cosmetic decision.
Magic is at the heart of The Lord of Poker. There are many different spells: defensive or offensive, blessing or cursing, those that can increase or decrease a hero’s attributes. You will learn how to cast spells in the Magic Guild. Before a new spell is added to your magic book, you must collect and correctly arrange magic runes into a runic inscription containing the spell.
Magic runes are obtained by knocking AI-players out of play during card combat and also completing various quests throughout the game. Another way to cast magic spells during card combat is to use one-off magic scrolls that are bought, won, or found.
The main in-game currency of Lord of Poker is gold. You will need it to enter card combat at any gaming location, buy valuable equipment in the Shop, purchase raw materials and learn skills to craft items at the Forge, and to learn spells in the Magic Guild. Initially a player will receive a certain amount of gold. In case a player loses it all he/she can go to a location called “the Mines” to yield some or purchase the gold for real money.
Gold can be won with victories in card combat, and also for knocking each AI-player off the table. Completing quests very often brings you some coins as well.
Equipment improves primary skills and/or grants additional features and abilities to your hero. There is only a small chance that a defeated AI-player will drop a complete item. In most cases, you will get one or two pieces of an item.
After you collect the required amount of pieces to craft a particular item, it is time to go to the Forge.
Please, note that our backers will get an exclusive set of equipment unavailable for regular players.
While adventuring in the World you will visit five original locations where card combats occur between players and AI-players: Tavern, Forest, Swamp (Work in Progress), Mountain Trail (Work in Progress), Desert (Work in Progress)*.
As you engage in card combats in different locations, you will see how various environmental effects influence your play; such as “Fuddle” in the Tavern, “Fear” in the Forest, “Sink” in the Swamp, etc.
Each location has its own unique mobs which vary in strength and try to win card combat using different magic spells. The AI-players always play as a team.
Although you may choose to play on any location you would like, we have set some recommendations regarding the level your hero should have attained in order to succeed in card combat in a particular location. The further you proceed from the Tavern the stronger and more skillful are the AI-players you will encounter.
On your way to the title of the Lord of Poker you must complete a ladder-type challenge which is held at the Fortress.
Each stage of the Challenge is a Heads Up match against another player. You must win all 5 sequential card combats to progress. You may, however, take a break after the completion of each stage and return to the Challenge later. The fifth and final battle is against the AI-powered Fortress Guardian.
The Main Tournament in the Castle is where players holding platinum tickets contend for the title of the Lord of Poker and the real money prize pool. The tournament has several reward points. Players who succeeded in the Main Tournament will also receive in-game gold every day until the next Main Event.
In addition to the card combat locations, there is also a place for duels and team battles. This is Arena. Here players can challenge each other to duel and create their own bets, cooperate with friends and play team vs. team. In the Arena players gain combat points instead of experience. These points can be converted into a variety of useful game items.
The world is not just about card combats. There are many unique environments to discover and many ways to interact with the fantasy world around you. We'll make further announcements in our updates.
One of the defining features of Lord of Poker is its rich and detailed atmosphere. We’ve all seen the key role that music and sound design play in making a game great. Much attention was, therefore, paid to the game’s soundtrack and audio effects.
Check out portions of our original musical score below:

In the next place, any feedback from our prospective players is very important to us.
Risks and challenges
Game development is quite complex and challenging even for experienced studios let alone the new comers. Provided that “Lord of Poker” represents an entirely new game genre, we foresee certain risks in implementing the new features which may result in minor delays. Certain legal issues in the US relating to online gambling may as well arise (although we are not an online gambling facility or poker room). We have been advised by the US law firm on our full compliance with the federal laws.
Other than that, we are confident we can deliver the high quality game that meets the expectations of either ourselves and our backers/players.
