The Galallery (The Type-Oh Gallery) is The Secret Alley’s volunteer run co-operative gallery space. The Secret Alley is an artist workshop that provides local San Francisco Artists a place to collaborate, palaver, scheme and dream. The Galallery (Type-Oh Gallery) is our public outlet.
The Galallery has been running in San Francisco since 2010. Primarily running group shows, mixing up and coming artists, established artists, dabbling in the arts artists, finding either a commonality or juxtaposition to their works, sometimes even bringing themes to the mix. Drawing crowds for our Halloween art shows where a group of artists collaborate to transform our gallery into something sweeping.
THE LOW DOWN
Our goal is to renovate and reinvent the gallery floor. The current floor is a "fix'all", wheel chair carpet disaster, unwelcoming, falling apart, run-down broken plywood.
Our plan lay down plywood, cut the design of a giant jigsaw puzzle, stain it, and then put down a coat of polyurethane...a cheap, unique, inspirational, structure reimbursing design for our ~500+ sq ft gallery floor.
Our lighting system has always been clamp lights and extension cords, really an inappropriate and unsafe (turns out it's illegal) means of lighting the people's work. Our lighting renovation plan is to set up a track lighting system that can be manipulated to properly illuminate various sizes of exhibitions as well as tuck up if need be. We will be installing energy saving LED lights to both save the electricity and hopefully save us money.
We will also be repainting and resurfacing our walls. The walls have some battle scars and deep stains that need love, mud, and paint...
The truth of the matter is we do not have the money to move forward with this and it is the only way we can allow the people back into our gallery. So we turn to our comrades, friends and families
We are offering some pretty cool rewards in turn for your contribution
FOR THE LOVE
Because we enjoy sharing our space with artists so much we are attempting to up our show schedule from 6 openings a year to 10. In order to do this we must streamline and assure our aesthetic and operating functionality, hence the renovation.
Knowing that many of our patrons, friends are broke struggling artists/art lovers we are looking for any kind of contribution, even spreading the word that we need support is a good contribution.
Risks and challenges
Achieving the hefty sum of 6,000 clams is a big enough feat for us. We will be casting our net wide searching for contributions from all throughout this crazy world.
The floor plan itself is a challenge, it's unique and intricate design will be both a struggle and a learning process....but you know what? we're game for such a challenge, and have faced far worse.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
