Tell Me... creates the experience of connection. When this deck of question cards is played with family, friends or colleagues, conversation feels more authentic and satisfying. Unexpected fun sides of people make appearances too. People leave the game feeling surprised at how enlivened and connected they feel.
Play is simple. Each person draws a card, reads it, and everyone in the group has the opportunity to answer the question.
The prototype of Tell Me... has 4 categories of cards:
1) Deep Questions
2) Light/Fun Questions
3) Pause Cards
4) Group Questions
Engaging with cards from these four categories allows you to both connect more deeply with yourself and with others.

Why the Game Tell Me?
Think about a a moment you truly connected with a family member or friend. Really pause here, and give yourself a moment to recall. What was a time when you authentically connected to him or her? What was happening in that moment? Just pause here and reflect. How did it feel to be connected?
To me, I feel enlivened and energized in these moments of true authentic connection. They are some of my favorite moments of life.
We all hunger for this meaningful connection with each other, and we are all capable of it. Sometimes at holidays, dinner parties and social events, the conversation can stay at a more surface level while people’s hearts, humanity, and deeper passions are lying just under the surface longing to come out. Part of why conversations stay more surface is habit and a lack of exposure. Many of us just haven’t spent much time speaking and listening from the depth of ourselves in our regular socializing, so we don’t quite realize that it’s possible.
I've found that just a little bit of structure can go a long way to deepening conversation with family and friends. Having fresh, incisive questions, allowing space for listening, and expressing appreciation directly to another, provide some of the scaffolding from which deeper connection can emerge. Tell Me… gives players this structure so that we have an excuse to connect and permission to be real with each other.
Instructions: The instructions for Tell Me... are simple yet profound. They are just enough to change the normal flow of group conversation to more authentic and connected expression and deeper listening.
Your Involvement in the Development Process:
Part of why I am running a Kickstarter campaign is to create a forum to capture backers' feedback and input on the game. If you want to try it out and give feedback during the 45 days of the campaign, please do! You just need to choose the "Pilot Deck" option in the rewards. If you do this, I'll email you a print-and-play pilot version of a 50 card deck. Please play it with anyone you choose, and send feedback either via the comment section on this site or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Throughout the Kickstarter campaign, I will periodically send questions to backers where they can comment on the development process of the game and provide feedback. I'm looking forward to collaborating with you!
First Time to Kickstarter?
For many of you, this may be the first Kickstarter project you've backed. So here's a quick explanation of the process.
When you pledge money, you pick which reward you want. For example, when you pledge $20, you choose to get one deck of Tell Me... If you pledge higher amounts, you can choose to get additional packs and other bonus stuff. You can also choose to not take a reward if you don't want one.
Once you've made your selection, Kickstarter will send you to Amazon Payments, where they'll record your pledge. They don't bill you yet. They only charge you money at the end of the campaign, and only if the funding goal ($7,500) is reached. You can modify or cancel your pledge at any time until very close to the end of the campaign.
Based on my research, the minimum amount required for printing and producing my first run of this card game is $5,000. The additional $2,500 will go towards website development, Kickstarter and Amazon fees, the rewards, and game development. If I raise more than $7,500, my stretch goals are: 1) Create other versions of the game (e.g., a version of Tell Me... for work off-sites, for couples, for family holidays...), 2) To create a mobile app for the game, 3) To pay a design consultant, and 4) To develop more online instruction and support (video & audio) for how to authentically connect with oneself and others in a group setting.
Each set costs $20, but if you want us to ship it to you, you'll have to pledge an additional $7-10 for shipping within the U.S. and $20-$25 for International shipping.
Further Instruction and Guidance on Tell Me...
Tell Me... is a good entry point for connection, and there is so much potential for the game to allow you connect with others and yourself on even deeper and deeper levels. For those that want to really dive in and get more and more out of the game, I plan to create additional guidance for people at http://tellmethegame.com. I plan to write and record guidance and instructions on the following:
- How to connect with one's heart, humanity, being and intuition, below the level of thoughts and ideas, and how to express yourself from that inner place.
- How to deeply listen to others with honor and open receptivity. To listen without judgment or blame, but to be who you are in that moment.
- How to see, appreciate and directly express on the good we see in others.
- How to pause and drop into deeper mindful connection with oneself and the current moment.
I'll start with these types of instructions and as text and audio files, and plan to create other forms of guidance and instruction from there.

Risks and challenges
The main challenge is printing and mailing the decks and rewards to backers on time. From watching other people's campaigns, unforeseen circumstances and delays can arise. I feel confident in my ability to manage the inevitable setbacks and hiccups that will arise along the way of creating, printing and shipping this game. Finishing a PhD at UC Berkeley and project-managing large scale neuroscience clinical trials at Stanford has given more more than enough experience of how to troubleshoot setbacks in creative ways. I am resourceful, have a proven track record of delivering on projects, and I’m confident that I will get this out on time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
