Our Journey, Your Book
Two foolhardy travellers set out to uncover some of Ireland’s finest swimming spots – be it cove, pier, rock face, tidal pool or cliff edge.
In July and August 2015, we'll pitch our tents along the shores of some well-known and lesser-known locations along Ireland’s coastline. We'll catalogue and travelogue, in words and images, Ireland's finest swimming spots.
We'll bring these stunning coastal locations to life by giving voice to the stories, cultures and rituals of Ireland's swimmers, from its dippers to its distance swimmers. We'll record conversations and events, meet with all sorts of characters, and take advice from professionals to reveal Ireland's vibrant coastal swimming culture.
Like the Irish pub, the swimming hole brings together people from all walks of like. People come to the sea with a holiday atmosphere; it really does attract all sorts. We want to capture the culture, rituals and atmosphere of Ireland's swimming culture. We'll do this by producing a high-quality book in partnership with experienced Dublin-based indie publisher www.hellosixwest.com
We'll be writing on the road, recording our immediate experiences, conversations and observations. We'll be shooting high-quality photographs of stunning coastal locations.
With years of experience behind the publisher hellosixwest.com and production and design values based on the publishers latest venture We Are Dublin magazine, the At Swim will not just be a great read, but a beautiful object. We are using the country’s best printer in order to ensure the quality is as high as it can be.

Risks and challenges
With the production of any book there is the potential for delays. We've set ourselves an ambitious deadline but we'll be writing on the road, sending material to the publisher as we go for editing and inclusion in our design template. It will be a work in progress from swim number one. We've already done a few dry (or wet) runs by making journeys around the country, so we know how many spots we can visit in any given period, what level of writing we can get done while on the road in July and August. After a month of solid writing and rewriting, and with a strong production, research and editorial team behind us, we'll have no problem bringing this beautiful book to print by early November.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
