Card tables, dining room tables, coffee tables, and the floor. Each of these has its own drawbacks when it comes to the wargamer, and the RPG'er. Often times playing your favorite games on the coffee table, or the infamous card table, gives the benefit of being able to have a flat, hard surface to game, but rarely do they offer the space needed for the players to spread out their stuff, let alone allow enough place for the game itself. The kitchen table may not always be convenient if other family members want to use it (or have already begun to use it) when you and your friends are ready to game. But of course there is always the floor. Although this may not offer comfort, and isn't the best thing for rolling dice all the time.
This is where having your own gaming table comes in. The issue with this, however, is that gaming tables are expensive. There not a lot of businesses out there that will make your own custom gaming table. And the ones that will, though they make excellent tables and accessories, have starting prices as high as $1400! Not to mention these places offer a regulation sized wargame table with a starting price over $2000! These businesses make fabulous tables that any gamer would drool over, but the fact is that many gamers do not have that kind of money to put into a table of their own. Many would rather buy more gaming literature or pieces before spending a few grand on a table.
We believe this is a problem, and an opportunity. That is why we want to help gamers get their own tables, or table-tops to play their games without breaking the bank. We offer the chance for a gamer to decide the right size table, or table-top, that suits them and their game type, then choose what kind of finish they want, all at an affordable price. Even the price on the largest table we make (4' x 8') does not run over $500!
To be able to offer gaming furniture at a fraction of the price of other businesses, concessions do have to be made. Our furniture is simple by design. We do not shape any of our furniture with such tools as a lathe, or cut intricate patterns into them. We choose good, strong wood, and make as few cuts as possible. Then a finish is applied and a sealing coat is put on. What you have after assembly is a functional gaming table, not a fragile work of art.
Because of our simple furniture designs, we are able to save money by not having to keep a large inventory of different kinds of woods, and a large assortment of hardware. This savings is passed to our customers. Another advantage of our designs is that even though a customer has the chance to work with us in customizing his or her item, once the item has been chosen, we can have the final product in a relatively short amount of time. For example, our largest table, the Mammoth, without any finishing stain or sealer, can be made within a few hours. That includes the first cut to the final tightening of bolts! Throw a finish on it, and it could be out of the shop door in a couple of days!
Keep it simple! This is how we help gamers get the furniture they want, at a cost that is affordable.
We will offer:
Dice trays with felt lining to help those dice roll, and borders so they don't fly out of reach.
Portable, fold-up gaming surface with a little storage space for your maps, etc... inside.
A short table with stub legs for you to have a hard, elevated surface when sitting on the floor, or to put on top of a preexisting table to make it your gaming surface. Don't worry about the legs scratching the polished dining room table, they are felt padded so nothing is damaged. The legs are removable for storing the table out of the way.
Full-sized gaming tables at a typical sitting table-height or at bar-height (with a foot plank for comfort. We can make these any size, up to 4 ft by 8 ft. These include reversible table-tops that one person could easily take out, flip, and replace. This gives you more options for your gaming surfaces. We could put on some hobby grass, or snow mat, or keep it plain. We even have dry-erase board for those of us who love to draw all over the field. We can even put a lexan, or plastic sheet (at additional cost) to cover your maps, or grid sheets, as you interchange them. All of these tables can be made to be disassembled for moving them more conveniently, or made to be permanent. Either way, the tables will have solid construction.
Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge we have is a lack of start-up funding. We have all the designs laid out, and even have ideas rolling around for more products, but the fact is that we only one item built. Even this item was just a quick build to see what challenges would show up in the process of making the table. We know what we can do make the products better, and better looking, and even have these fixes in our designs, but without demo's of the other products we offer, backers are certainly taking a leap of faith.
With this second attempt at funding through Kickstarter, we have cut out of our initial goal almost all of the marketing fund, more than half of the tools we require for a fully functioning shop, and our start-up inventory of materials. Our aim this time is to get the bare essentials to do three things: get a few needed tools, build products to showcase as demo's for future funding, and (most importantly) build and ship the rewards to our awesome backers.
Other challenges with a project such as this is the fact that our products definitely appeal to a niche market. Not just everyone is going to want to have one of these in their home! And maybe many gamers are actually fine playing the games where they currently play them. We understood this from the beginning when we made our first gaming table for ourselves and decided maybe others would want to have one. The benefit of offering products such as ours is that an initial inventory is relatively low cost, and since the products are tailored to customers specifications, most materials will not even be purchased for the product until the sale is finalized. Even the largest of products we can make do not take very long to complete, ensuring that prices stay low for customers.
Since the sale price includes all material costs, any order placed with us will result in a final product. This allows us to maintain our quality and ensure each customer gets just what they want. If the situation should arise that the finished item has some issue with it ( a blemish, or the whole thing is just defective), we will work with our customers by email, phone, or skype to find out the issues with our product and figure out a way for us to correct the issue. If we have to remake a segment of a table, or table-top and/or refinish a part of the product because of something we did wrong, we will gladly fix it for the customer at no charge. If it turns out whatever product our customer purchased is defective as a whole, we will construct an entirely new product that meets the specs of the original and replace the old one at no cost to the customer.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
