As a frustrated photographer I’ve been making a lot of very introspective work recently, imagery dealing with isolation, depression, loneliness and the like. I’m feeling a bit stuck in my life and my photographs are feeling a bit stuck on my computer’s hard drive.
So I’ve decided to make a book entitled “A Photo Book For Lonesome Children.” It won’t be exclusively for children, but it will be worded in a kid friendly way. I’ve been incorporating text and spoken word into my work recently. Here is an example:
In the book each image will have its own title and reason for its loneliness. Some images will be very melancholy, some will be just a little sad, some will actively enjoy the lonesome feeling. The idea here is to capture the broadest range of emotion on this subject, and hopefully convince readers of the book that it is ok to be lonely or feel sad; that these are normal emotions that everybody feels. This is what a page from the book will look like:
In order to communicate these ideas I’ve got to get these images OUT THERE. Digital portfolios and streaming video will not cut it. I want to make this physical book. More specifically, I want to make a lot of books.
This is where the pledges come in. Part of every donation will go towards the printing of a copy of the book. You aren’t pledging for my time or equipment, you are pledging to spread the art. Every new book not connected to a pledge reward will be donated to a library, school, interested non-profit or any other entity that I find who wants a book. Recommendations welcome!
