About this project
Decanters transform liquor from a packaged good to home decor. It's simply civilized drinking.
However decanters seem to be seen as relics of the the mid-century lifestyle—a forgotten artifact from the days of drinking scotch at work. This oversight inspired us to refresh the decanter with a new design for the current golden age of cocktails.
Presenting the Manual Cocktail Collection—a line of glassware for spirits that centers around a set of hand-blown frosted glass decanters.
The corked closure of the decanter doubles as an integrated dosing jigger, which allows you to quickly measure a shot of spirits, create basic proportions for a casual cocktail, or even dose syrups and juices.
Our matching mixing glass is a refined way to mix a cocktail at home. Simply grab a bar spoon and start stirring.
The handle makes it easy to use a julep strainer and get a perfect pour every time. Rounding out the collection is a set of stacking frosted cocktail glasses to get you sipping in style.
The 3 sizes of decanter creates a landscape of frosted forms on your cocktail tray that will take your imbibing to the next level.
It’s time to retire the crowd of mismatched bottles on your bar—it’s time to start decanting.
▲ Keep your house whiskey at the ready. It's been said that there's no such thing as a bad bourbon—just good ones and better ones. Keep your daily sipper at the ready (no matter what kind) for a dose of evening relaxation.
▲ Decant the spirits needed for a cocktail and let your party attendees casually mix their own drinks. For classic cocktails like the Manhattan or Negroni, it's quite easy to use the jigger to measure the basic proportions and create an excellent cocktail.
▲ Make an inexpensive bottle of wine look smart. Decant a bottle of wine (or even sparkling water) and stack the drinking cups on top for a more sophisticated way to bring a drink to the table.
▲ Make time for aperitivo time. Pair some Aperol or Campari with something bubbly and spend an afternoon with some good spritzes, tasty bites and great company.
▲ Stay hydrated. Life isn't all about booze. Pair a carafe and glass as a water decanter for your bedside—or as a classier way to stay hydrated all day at your desk.

Manual designs products for food that encourage you to slow down and appreciate the moment. We value craft over convenience, we elevate rituals over routines, and we strive for simplicity over novelty.
Led by designer Craighton Berman in collaboration with culinary-trained partner Emily Berman, we work out of a storefront studio in Chicago's North Park neighborhood.
The Manual Cocktail Collection was inspired by our own use of decanters in our home. Vintage decanters are a sophisticated way to display spirits on a bar tray, but we wanted something more sculptural than decorative. The integrated jigger was inspired by bedside water carafes where the glass also acts as the lid—we wanted to bring a similar intuitive closure to the world of decanters, where a shot glass or jigger is always an extraneous component on the bar. The experience of using a vessel with an integrated cup is uniquely pleasing, and we think you'll dig it.
The images you see on this page are all pre-production samples from the factory that we have worked with extensively on multiple other projects. Manufacturing is scheduled to begin as soon as we are funded, with the goal of shipping for the holidays. Below is a high-level schedule for the project:

- Late August — manufacturing begins
- Late September — products packaged
- October — ocean freight from China
- November — Product received in US
- December — product ships via Blackbox
- To all the Kickstarter backers who keep helping us bring ideas to life—we are humbled by your continued support!

Risks and challenges
Previously, we have successfully run 6 Kickstarter projects, so we know our way around making great things and getting them to people.
We work with a manufacturing agent, who has been our close collaborator through many previous projects. Our agent manages our daily affairs overseas—with factories in China they have worked with extensively.
However the reality is that when you're manufacturing any physical good there are sure to be unforeseen challenges. We promise to be open and honest in our communications in timing and design changes as we navigate our way!
Remember, Kickstarter is not a store—you are pledging support to an independent design company that is starting down the path of producing a product. Part of your "reward" is getting an inside view at the process as well as our sincere appreciation for the support!
We only produce products we feel deeply passionate about and are too stubborn to see things fail. You can put your trust in Manual that we will deliver the goods. ✌Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
